Moving on from George Romero to Wes Craven. That's right, it's time for #ANightmareOnElmStreet!
If I'm being completely honest, I think this is the movie I can credit with my love of horror. I was way too fucking young when I saw it, and it absolutely terrified me, gave me nightmares, the whole nine. But I also really loved it.
Watching #anightmareonelmstreet2 tonight...and it's MUCH worse than I remember. I don't really have much to say other than that, and probably won't for most of these. Let's just say that this movie isn't inspiring me to keep slogging through them...but I'm gonna try. God help me, I'm gonna try.
Alright, we're four deep now. This one's not too bad. It's not as good as the previous movie, but it's still leaps and bounds ahead of the horseshit sundae that is the second one. Fuck that movie. This one at least has some pretty cool dream world set pieces, and that alone earns it quite a few points. I'll probably give this one another watch some day as well.
But not number two. Fuck that trash pile.
Put Freddy on ice for the night in favor of finally watching #beetlejuicebeetlejuice! Honestly, it was about as good as a sequel nearly 40 years late could ever hope to be. I was expecting it to be a lot more toothless than it was, but was pleasantly surprised (though I did feel like it lacked some of the original's weird darkness).
And Michael Keaton was fantastic.
Seeing as neither Freddy's Dead nor New Nightmare are on any of the streaming services I use, I'm moving on from Kruegerville.
Tonight, I'm watching my favorite 'zombie apocalypse caused by the gross incompetence of two dipshits' movie, Return of the Living Dead! This is another one of those movies I watch pretty much every year, because it's just that enjoyable. It's funny, well-shot, has a cool score, and has a lot of excellent creature FX. What's not to like?
For some people, it's Star Wars or The Godfather. For others, Lord of The Rings or Nolan's Dark Knight films. But my favorite movie trilogy is the Evil Dead trilogy. These movies are all the best kinds of fucked up, and I will love them until I'm dismembered in a cabin in the woods.
So, tonight I'm watching 1981's The Evil Dead. This one's more of a straight-up horror movie than the other two, and it is one of my all-time favorite examples of successful independent art.
If I only watch 1 Evil Dead movie in October, it's Evil Dead 2. Some days, I'd tell you that it's my favorite movie. Why? A lot of things. It's well-written, well-shot, & (mostly) well-acted. But what really sells it is Bruce Campbell's increasingly unhinged performance. He sells this brand of madness in a way that seems almost effortless, & it's a brand of madness that hangs with my own very well. I fucking love this movie.
This is the best thing Sam Raimi ever made & likely ever will make.

I first saw Army of Darkness when I was around 10-years-old. I wasn't aware that it was part of a series of movies, let alone that it was the last in a trilogy. I just knew that it was a goofy, batshit-insane time travel / demon hunting movie, and that I fucking loved it. Bruce Campbell's line delivery and physical comedy chops are on-point throughout.
Ash is a selfish fucking idiot, and that's what makes the movie.
Tonight's movie is Dr. Giggles, which I haven't seen in around 30 years. I remember thinking it was stupid and terrible back then. So far...that opinion is sticking. Unless this movie becomes absolutely gut-busting hilarious, I doubt very strongly I'll ever watch it again.

I just finished it, and I loved it. I feel like I could recommend it to pretty much any horror aficionado and they'd get something out of it.
Definitely not Ghost Rider.
@HillardHouseDan Stands alongside films like Life of Brian and MP & the Holy Grail as an all-time classic. I too saw this before either Evil Dead.
I need to go find my DVD somewhere in the closet. Then I need to find something to play it on...
