Really curious about the route my ICE will take between Köln Messe/Deutz and Aachen, given that it'll be 1h40. We're even going relatively fast at 140 km/h.
We just bypassed Düsseldorf, still on the wrong side of the Rhine. Next possible crossing is Duisburg.

We did cross the Rhine in Duisburg, now finally proceeding in a sensible direction. 30 min late compared to the already disrupted timetable.

But I can't bring myself to complain about trackwork in Köln Hbf, I keep saying it needs improvement...

@DiegoBeghin At least your train didn't do a Pofallawende in Liège-Guillemins just like many other trains this week. Whatever route they had planned, 1h40 wasn't enough apparently.
@PhiH Well, that's one advantage of taking the last train of the day.
@DiegoBeghin You're sure you're on the ICE to Brussels, and not say Amsterdam?
@TheKorot Yes. Next stop Aachen. I know, I know, it's crazy. We're 30 min delayed on top of the already ridiculous timetable by now.
@DiegoBeghin It’ll go to Rheydt, reverse, go to Aachen, and reverse again (or that's what it normally does when Köln-Aachen is closed)
@jon I think this time the closure is specifically Köln Hbf? But since we're on the wrong side of the Rhine I think we pass by Mönchengladbach anyway, via Düsseldorf
@jon This is actually trackwork I don't mind, Köln Hbf does need improvement. What's unfortunate is the combination of holiday/high ICE demand and fewer trains.
@DiegoBeghin maybe you avoid reversing in Rheydt then. But via Geilenkirchen, Herzogenrath to Aachen is almost certain
