Capitalism is so efficient at allocating resources that Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook have spent billions of dollars on "AI," VR, and augmented reality headsets that cost too much, mostly don't work, and nobody wants.

It's amazing, really.

@gwynnion
This. (and all the other dead-end innovations or killed-in-the-crib innovations that would of benefited everyone)
@gwynnion it's "can we just get healthcare?" for the enth time

@gwynnion

Efficient at allocating resources AWAY from people, you meant to say, of course.

@gwynnion hey, hello, me, friends and even classmates do want AI stuff, and many love VR games! I'm excited to someday play Skyrim VR too, even if I don't like Skyrim that much
@gwynnion I have believed that only Chinese allways focus and argue the topics about the captalism.
@gwynnion Don't stop them from destroying themselves
@gwynnion Do you imagine they'll give up and we'll never have AI and VR, or do you think they'll keep developing these technologies until they're ubiquitous?

@MikeElgan I highly doubt they will ever achieve true AI, at least by this route.

They can probably get VR / AR done if they can micronize the technology and the power pack enough and address the ubiquitous motion sickness.

The real problem, I think, is whether it does anything we need as opposed to being just another vector for surveillance and data collection.

Some people who've tried these devices think they're neat but they still struggle to find a use for them.
