just "dealt" with my first abuse report (rather, explained to my provider what the fuck was going on). angry German accuses us of "referrer" spam and "hacking" with poorly translated "This type of hacking attempt is also a threat to many other websites." regarding our URL preview generation service https://www.npmjs.com/package/@misskey-dev/summaly (which relies on https://github.com/sindresorhus/got as well so it hits twice) being used to "hack" their network. two requests, to a wordpress instance warrants an ip block for a /24.

(this is why i was asking questions @dakkar, i believed that it was our url preview service but i didn't know 100% until you also commented. i thought perhaps there was a bug that made it spam connections but all i can tell from logs is that it was two requests 💀)

I'm so sorry, it appears I have hacked github & npm because my instance also generated url previews for those sites. I'm such a bad girl.

I'm laughing at this one because they have a mastodon account. I am not linking it because I do not want harassment towards that particular individual and I know that even if i put as many disclaimers as possible "do not harass this person' that it's still bound to happen. I just find this fucking hilarious, because they have listed other "hacker" ip blocks that were just... requesting normal endpoints for loading wordpress...

ngl i sent them a follow request just to be an ass, but also so that when inevitably they make a post about the /24 i can see what kind of shit they're going to say about us hacking them

@puppygirlhornypost2 An abuse report something I'm involved with got was for a matrix server of mine sending lots of requests to their server... they were closing the connection without sending a response EVERY SINGLE TIME, so the poor matrix server didn't know what to do and kept trying to fetch information again and again over time apparently. (Still technically was bad, but they kinda asked for it IMO)

the most reliable way to deal with someone like that is to send a fax, with the same accusations they made, that usually works.
