The Clyde at sunset can be spectacular, but it's always puzzled me as to why Glasgow seems to make so very little of the amazing potential of its waterfront.

@thisismyglasgow

Is it a waterway that people could kayak/canoe/e-boat like the canals?

@FallsMom It is. I kayak up it quite regularly. It is tidal and quite open, but I'm always surprised it isn't used more for watersports.

@thisismyglasgow

That surprises me too, water-sports is a real draw for the river in our small town.

@FallsMom I think one of the issues is the perception that the river is heavily polluted. That's not actually the case these days, but it was in the past when Glasgow was heavily industrialised.

@thisismyglasgow

We had this issue as well. . . the river that runs through my town is the Cuyahoga River, you may have heard of it as the river that caught on fire decades ago!

@thisismyglasgow That's a really good point, it's currently populated by soulless commercial buildings and apartment blocks, there's so little down there to a) draw people in and b) make them stay. Imagine if it was all tree-lined with cafes and bars..
