"Why doesn't Biden get credit for a strong economy?"

Every consumer brand and lending company will tell you the economy is currently K-shaped with older, whiter, and wealthier Americans rolling in cash and spending like crazy and everyone else struggling to afford basic necessities, especially with rents going out of control.

I wish people would actually listen.

While Trump's core supporters are themselves more affluent, the affordability crisis is one of the reasons he keeps floating in the polls as people who otherwise don't pay attention to politics think -- wrongly -- he can bring back the 2019 economy, which wasn't that great either.

Republicans have tried to exploit this anxiety with anti-immigrant and crime hysteria bullshit, which Democrats have unfortunately contributed to in an ill-advised attempt to pander to white voters.

@gwynnion I've seen several liberals on here explicitly arguing that the economy is great and we're deluded by propaganda to think otherwise.

How detached from reality are they? How can they imagine that's a persuasive argument? They're practically campaigning for Trump with that.

@foolishowl Mastodon skews very much white, male, older, and more affluent but Democrats in general seem to have decided suburban professional homeowners raking in investment cash are the only ones worth listening to right now.

Meanwhile, you don't have to look far to find people who've been job hunting for months without success, who are working multiple jobs, and/or have to crowdfund rent, groceries, and utilities because they can't keep up.

Without the Inflation Reduction Act, the situation would be much worse.

@gwynnion if the economy was strong was are groceries twice as much. Why is housing more expensive than ever? Why are 30,000 tech people out of work and struggling to find new work? Hmm. Strong economy I think not.
