I love #Doonesbury with the heat of 1000000 white hot suns. “Democrat” party? No. “Democrat” is a noun. “Democratic” is an adjective.

Here’s a link about that: https://mastodon.social/@GottaLaff/113085164936664065

@GottaLaff Democrat as an adjective is such a tell of someone's ideology or media consumption.
@madopal That’s in the link
@GottaLaff Sorry, meant to be agreeing, not clarifying/correcting/mansplaining.
@madopal You weren't at all. Thanks though, lol.
@madopal (I meant you weren't mansplaining or anything negative)
@GottaLaff Yeah, understood. But since you get so much crap for fighting the good fight, figured I'd make sure. Keep up the great work.
@madopal Very kind of you. You're unique that way, lol
@GottaLaff
Alas, that kind of interview of a Republican will only ever happen in Doonesbury.
@GottaLaff thank-you Doonesbury! That whole Democrat as an adjective thing is just another way they've manipulated the discourse.
@GottaLaff
I'm in for it.
From now on, it is Republic candidate.

@GottaLaff

🤣 🤣 🤣

it's absolutely perfect

you'd expect it listening to kindergarteners banter

and yet, here we are, as a nation

you either laugh or you cry

today we laugh

@benroyce Lol, hence my handle.

@GottaLaff

i don't see "Laughy" i see "Laufey"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laufey_(singer)

but this is because this is what my daughter listens to, everyone else here is normal

either way: {hat tip} to you Laffy, much respect, you're the heart and soul of Mastodon

Laufey (singer) - Wikipedia

@benroyce @GottaLaff Laffy is, and I can't stress this enough, an international treasure. She should be listed by UNESCO.

@Eetschrijver @benroyce Lol, no! LAFFY!!

And thank you both, sincerely.

@benroyce @GottaLaff So are we all saying "Doughnald Troomp" now? Actually, that sounds like Melania, or the fake version of Melania who appears on Stephen Colbert.
@GottaLaff There's only one comic that I still follow every single day (even though there are only brand new ones on Sunday) and of course it's this!
@Eetschrijver I follow 2. Doonesbury and @Wileymiller's Non Sequitur. But that's it.
@GottaLaff This one speaks to me! From now on it’s the republic party. And btw…autocorrect doesn’t even like it reduced to “republic”. I had to force it.
@DebR I used to call it the Rushpublic party, back when Limbaugh called it the "Democrat" party
@GottaLaff My cousin one time removed named her son after him. But then her mother is the maga governor…🤮
@GottaLaff @SoGeneris It’s such a weird childish act — it’s not even a slur, it’s just altering the word’s part of speech.

@michaelgemar @SoGeneris Yes, it is a slur. Read my link.

It is a slur. It's intended that way, and it is.

@GottaLaff @SoGeneris I get it’s intended as disrespect — perhaps I should have said instead that its surface meaning isn’t itself an actual insult, which is why it seems especially lazy and childish to me. When some folks call the GOP Rethuglicans, at least you can see the overt insult. Here, the insult is just in refusing to use the proper party name. It doesn’t even rise to the “cleverness” of something like “poopyhead”.
@GottaLaff
I have seen Doonesbury since the guardian started syndicating it in like 1986 and I've never liked it. Tastes I guess.

@GottaLaff Since Liz Cheney is prognosticating that the GOP will have to be burned down and reconstructed, they will have to choose wisely to avoid all mention of the R word so as not to confuse old-school GOPers like me.

Suggest they split off the Evangelicals and hard-core MAGAts into a new party: Call it "Angels of the Lord," a la Heinlein's Nehemiah Scudder. (Who, it should be remembered, transformed himself into "The Prophet" via the magic of television.) 🤔

@jimthewhyguy @GottaLaff
It's too soon to predict how the Republicans will react if they get trounced at the ballot boxes this fall, but I was glad that Cheney did not put herself forward as being able to help with a new conservative political party since she has pretty much zero political capital at this point.

It is going to be interesting to see how it pans out though.

I'm hoping that the Democrats hold the center and that a new party forms on the left leaving the GOP to the far right.

@GreenFire @GottaLaff From my viewpoint of 50+ years observing USA politics, the current GOP is no longer a political party; it's now TFGMaGoonClownCentral.

It - NOT the "deep state" it rails about - needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt from its ashes, if any are suitable.

Disclosure: I was a Reagan Republican. I didn't go anywhere - the party left ME.

@GottaLaff You’ve been posting about the “Democrat Party” insult for years, Laffers. Ab fab Doonesbury. ❤️❤️❤️
@GottaLaff For what it’s worth, the Dallas Morning News chose not to run that one today, instead substituting one from September 12, 2021. I wouldn’t have noticed had it not been for your post. Thanks.

@GottaLaff I used to be a garmmar nazi (remember those?) until I realized a sizable portion of the language abuse was a deliberate power grab.

White men in the US are aberrantly illiterate. The example Republican officeholders set for our students is blatantly ugly. Conservative party, my ass....

@janisf This isn't illiteracy though. Read the link. It's a slur.

I love grammar nazis!

@GottaLaff I'm positing the relative illiteracy of US men & boys is partly a gender power problem--that too many men in leadership consider themselves above? using the language "the rest of us" use, including picking up a book, and that though not true all time, "boys will be boys" is applied to literacy deficits.
@GottaLaff
The Republic Party can't admit they are not Democratic.

@GottaLaff
DONALD WHO'S-NOT-SANE TRUMP

If enough people use that perhaps he'll stop using Obama's middle name.

@GottaLaff DonOLD Trump sure has thin skin.
@GottaLaff omg 😂🤣😂🤣😂 the best
@GottaLaff The endorsed contender for the Republican nomination for governor in the state of Washington put in place people urging all references to 'democracy' to be removed from the party's documents, because 'We’re a Republic, not [&c.].'.
@GottaLaff
That "Democrat Party" diss has gotten so old. It's still annoying, but he's been saying it for 9 years, nobody has called him up short on it, or called his party the "Repubic Party", "Repugnican Party" or even "Republic Party", so maybe it's time to just ignore that bit of assholery. I'm sure we can come up with something equally dismissive, disrespectful & snotty, if we try.
