@pilky @morrick @louie The pagers that were boobytrapped all belonged to Hezbollah members.
@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie I don’t think there’s any evidence, or even claims, of that.

@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie Civilians died, including children. I don’t want to get into a semantic argument about what exactly constitutes “terrorism” but “this would make for a great movie” is incredibly poor taste as an immediate reaction.

And no, making a movie about a tragedy years later is not the same thing.

@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie I will just leave here Daniel’s lucid response on a similar exchange:
@Migueldeicaza @gruber @pilky @morrick @louie Do you mind adding the links to the war crime analysis the comment says is linked?

@josephholsten @gruber @pilky @morrick @louie I don't have it, but will ask Daniel for it.

The other is a NY Times piece that I found by googling the name.

@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie my mom started removing electronics from her house this week in the fear that there might be unknown explosives hidden in them. Terror knows no borders. Terrorism is terrorism
@stroughtonsmith @gruber @pilky @[email protected] @[email protected] Hamas & Hezbollah are a terrorist orgs, they specifically target Israeli civilians. Israel targets confirmed active terrorists.
@stroughtonsmith @gruber @pilky @morrick @louie then tell your mom she will be fine as long as she doesn’t work for a terrorist organization.
@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie When you said “movie” maybe you were imagining an 80’s Movie. Here in 2024 things are quite a bit less straightforward. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/09/19/israel-lebanon-pagers-attack-victims/
Toll of Lebanon device attacks reveals Hezbollah’s ‘society in arms’

The attacks offer a rare window into the inner-workings of Hezbollah — an organization that is notoriously secretive and deeply embedded in Lebanese society.

The Washington Post
@cabel @gruber @pilky @morrick @louie “Most of the 37 people killed are believed to have been fighters, based on death notices posted by the group. Two were children, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Among the dead and the more than 3,000 injured, many blinded or maimed, were hospital workers, a shopkeeper, a car mechanic and a teacher — people who were not full-time militants but were connected to Hezbollah in other ways.”
@cabel my family and I went to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania (very fun!) today and I was bombarded by beautiful vintage logos. Check these out! rrmuseumpa.org
@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie You... can't be serious? This is demonstrably not the case. Every news report I've seen has stated the opposite.
@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie you don't know that. that's what israeli media is saying. israel could have trapped a whole batch to kill one hezbollah operative. you know they are capable of that

@gruber @pilky @morrick @louie Man, how have you become like this… getting old surely is quite something. You were one of the best but in the past 8 years or so you’ve become a caricature of yourself.

Maybe you are bitter due to your growing irrelevance in the Apple scene or something?

How can you claim that a shipment of several thousands of pagers somehow all were in the hands of terrorists when they decided to detonate them? I do not understand how you can condone such a terrible act.
