Traffic calming(1/5): In #Copenhagen, most of the non main ways are designed to calm car traffic by reducing its speed as well as its intensity. That can be based on reducing speed measures, designed to affect only to cars as well as "filters" which avoid the streets being used to cross to other areas, and are thus used only by residents or people which are specifically going to that particular street.

Traffic calming (2/5): In these pictures I show two more examples of traffic calming tools in #Copenhagen area. One of the pictures shows a road section reduction over a residential part of the street, where the vehicles'd drive through the residential with a speed limitation of 15km/h and paving stones as pavement. The other shows a change of direction. This kind of tool promotes that only people going to or coming from a house drive through. #SustainableMobility

Traffic calming (3/5):
Two additional examples of zig zag use for traffic calming in #Copenhagen Met. area. In one of them the zig zag effect/lateral shift is created by switching on-street parking lane location and with a hump. In the other example, there is a bi-directional street with no paintings & a reduced section where a deviation and closure is created by using trees as barriers (still young trees in the picture).

Traffic calming (4/5):

It took me a while to go on with the series. This time I just add a couple of examples more of #copenhagen : 1)four blocks at a junction. The motorised traffic is restricted by filters (like large planters/flowerbeds) that do not affect the cycle lane or pedestrian flow. 2) The other shows the junction between two sections by means of a raised section with cobblestones to mark the pedestrian priority reinforced by a zig zag formed by trees.

A few weeks ago I was at a conference in #Luleå (I'll have to write something about it). I saw there another interesting example of traffic calming on a low budget, in this case with flower pots. #SustainableMobility

Fun fact: it was the municipality of Luleå that popularised the flower pots as traffic calmers. They printed their guidelines and distributed them in Sweden some thirty years ago. I have them in my office.
