By putting most of the good stuff on the plain iPhone 16—which is good, to be clear!—it's going to make it that much harder to differentiate the iPhone 16 Pro. “Fewer colors, 5x camera, and more money” probably isn’t a great slogan. Let's see what they've got…
@siracusa Still pondering how cases will work with the new shutter button…
@kg @siracusa Apple is using a pass thru button that transfers touch to actual button. Everyone else will just have a hole.

@marcintosh @kg @siracusa
That’s a bummer, since I consider this a key feature and Apple no longer offers any cases I like.

Just having an opening for the new button will significantly reduce the appeal of third party cases, while Apple fails to offer a desirable first party option.

@freediverx @kg @siracusa Honestly, Apple doesn’t think you need a case. They really only offer them for “one stop shoppers.”

@marcintosh @kg @siracusa
Apple executives don’t need cases because they don’t have a life outside of their Apple Park office walls and they can get replacement phones as easily as I get a sheet of tissue from a box of Kleenex.

Even if you pay for AppleCare+ as I do, a caseless iPhone is just too slippery for any active use. Also I hate scratches.

Edit: Sorry I know you were being facetious. I haven’t had my coffee yet, lol.

@freediverx @marcintosh @siracusa I spent the evening last night looking through spigen’s (my current case) 16 pro max offerings. They are doing BOTH a cutout and a physical button for shutter. Kinda pricey and I have not decided which way I will go… I think I like the slimmer cutout ones, but have not fully committed.

iPhone 16 Series

@kg @marcintosh @siracusa
How can they make a physical button for the camera while supporting the haptic feedback?
@freediverx @kg @marcintosh The same way Apple does on its cases.
@siracusa @kg @marcintosh
Has Apple licensed the Camera Control button with the fancy sapphire crystal/conductive layer to third party case makers? (Sorry if this is widely known. I haven’t had time to dig into all these details yet.)
@freediverx @kg @marcintosh I don’t think there’s anything to license.
@siracusa @kg @marcintosh
Maybe I’m overthinking it. Thought they patented it or something.
