20 miles in, 80 more to go. Riding an event called Judgment Day where I have 24 hours to complete 10 trails that equal 100 miles of riding.

#mtb

I tapped out at 70 miles. We started at 6am and it was around 11pm when we finished the 6th trail. No cramps and my legs felt ok, but I was falling asleep on the trail towards the end. We had 3 trails to go and 30 miles. All I wanted to do at that point was go home and sleep in my bed. 😅 But my friends continued on and I’m sure they will finish. Failure for me, but it’s still the most riding I’ve ever done in such a short period. Going to have the best sleep ever now. #mtb
I have no idea why I passed a cardboard cutout of the late Queen Elizabeth II while I was riding on a mountain bike trail in the middle of Texas. #mtb
@mark that is certainly very random! 😂
@mark well you carry on I guess
@mark because the US are still a british colony? They just don’t tell you. 🤔
@mark I believe today is the 2 year anniversary of her death, although that hardly answers your question
@mark With things like that, it’s not a failure if you tried and enjoyed the challenge! 70 miles is plenty, good job!
@mark was expecting this post to end with “and I was exhausted”, but to be sleepy is kinda goated, tbh.

@mark I’m ULTRA impressed. Well done Mark! Wow.

(PS n00b curiousity: why did you decide to start at 6am? If you had 24 hrs to complete it, wouldn’t a mid-afternoon start have been better, to do half-ish, then sleep, then do the other half-ish?)

@leoncowle the 24 hour time was specifically from 6am to 6 the next day. And the trails chosen for the event were in a configuration where driving alone took up 5 hours of the day. Didn’t help that 2 trails were at state parks so it took forever to get past the gates with so many riders at the event.
@mark Ok, I was wondering if the start time was fixed. Ok, that makes sense. Still, 70 miles is excellent. Well done again!
@mark Definitely no fail with that much time spent on a bike and such a distance in one day. Congrats!
@mark a stirling effort Mark 💪🏼
@mark impressive effort nonetheless! Hope you got a great rest 😴

@mark If you had fun this day, I would not call it failure.

It’s all about the journey; not the destination, right?

@rob it was not fun. Haha. Definitely was an experience though. Distance riding just isn’t my thing. I wanted to experience it once.
@mark out of interest, is that an e-bike or a regular one? A massive achievement either way. Most I’ve ever cycled in one go was about 40 miles and I was tired beyond belief after that. Legs did cramp up for me and it was very painful. Almost didn’t make it home 😂
@sdjmchattie definitely not an e-bike. Haha. Was a regular mountain bike. There was a class for riders on single speed mountain bikes as well and I have no idea how they are able to do that. It’s tough enough with gears.
@mark Sounds like a successful day to me! Great job!
@mark 70 miles of trails is brutal, you should be proud!
