Trying to recreate some old-school UNIX vibes. πŸ€”

❓ Any suggestions for applications that use Motif, or some classic retro ones that play nice with this type of interface?

So far I've got: xcalc, xv, xpdf, xscreensaver, xephem, xmoontool, xmcd, xmmix, nedit, and pcmanfm installed.

Setting up Common Desktop Environment for modern use

I have recently started using CDE and as someone that never used it back in the 90s I really enjoy the classic look of it. Here are some tips and tricks for setting up CDE that I have gathered from various sources online and from my own tinkering. If any non-FreeBSD users are reading this...

@somatalos if I remember correctly, GTK and QT both have themes for Motiff-like look. πŸ€” So, any app should work.
@thindil πŸ‘ Yes, NsCDE should apply themes to various gtk and qt (see Firefox/PCManFM in the screenshot) but I was wondering if there was some old-timer software like xephem etc. πŸ˜ƒ
@somatalos Should be. I would look for applications which names start with `x`. πŸ˜‰ I think, Firefox in the screenshot is using GTK Motiff theme. I'm not sure if NsCDE is able to force GTK or QT based applications to use its theme. πŸ€”

@thindil Here's a brief explanation of theme management etc. for NsCDE:

@somatalos thank you for the link. 😊So, yes, NcCDE is able to force apps to use its theme. Nice. πŸ™‚

@thindil β€œI would look for applications which names start with `x`. πŸ˜‰β€

Blimey, missed that bit... Hehe, yeah indeed πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

@somatalos Each rule must have an exception. πŸ˜‚
