A note to Reeder Classic users:
For this release, I’ve tried to cover any questions you might have about the new Reeder and Reeder Classic in the FAQ:

There's no pressure to upgrade. As mentioned before, both apps will coexist. The new Reeder is free to download, so feel free to give it a try.

Reeder Help

@rizzi Congrats on shipping! Will there be an option to use Feedbin with the new one?

@fj @rizzi +1 on this, I will not be adding all my feeds to a new app

(Though I may opt to subscribe to some OPML files if that was possible: https://github.com/voxpelli/webring-opml#subscribe-to-it-in-your-feed-reader)

GitHub
@fj No - @rizzi specifically told beta testers that this app has a different vision than Classic and won’t integrate with services like Feedbin.
@cpekruhn @fj @rizzi this makes it then a no-go for me unfortunately. I will keep using Reeder Classic and when that won’t work anymore I will switch to another RSS app that supports Feedbin.
@panzerboy @fj @rizzi I was initially skeptical, as a Feedbin user myself, but I've come to really like the new app's approach. I actually feel less stress checking my feeds and have come to enjoy the timeline approach. But definitely not for everyone, and its not meant to be.
@cpekruhn I also catchup on my RSS feeds from Linux machines so will stick to Feedbin and Reeder classic for now
@rizzi I love the new app but I also like the Reeder Classic. I have one question, will Reeder Classic become subscription based too?
@pikuboy @rizzi It’s answered in the FAQ: No, it will stay a one time purchase
@voxpelli oh I feel stupid, thank you, i didn’t read the first answer completely

@rizzi Subscribed to support, but I don’t think that’s gonna be RSS Reeder replacement for me for now.

Are there any plans to bring some Reeder Classic features for Feeds in the new app? Like up/down navigation read/unread, etc?

@rizzi Congrats. What's the best way to report bugs?
@rizzi Congratulations! Years ago, I had to reluctantly stop using Reeder because it had a weird issue when scrolling with my touch Wacom that made it unusable — scrolling would stop, jump, stutter, etc. I'm glad to say that the new Reeder scrolls just fine with my Wacom. But I still miss the old one, which continues to have the strange scrolling problem. Any chance that's something repairable?

@rizzi Congrats on the launch from a long-time Reeder user!

Here are a couple of things that would make me instantly switch and subscribe:

1. Add a 'Read' tab in Home for articles only (similarly to 'Video' and 'Audio' tabs)
2. Exclude Shorts from the YouTube feeds (I only watch long-form videos);
3. Add playback speed control for YouTube videos
4. Add Instagram and Facebook Page feeds (though completely understand if it's not possible)

Any chance to see some of that in the near future?

@rizzi is the scroll position inside a post saved any synced? That’s been my biggest pain with trying to read long form content.
@rizzi exciting and happy to subscribe! Two questions based on comparing my first experience to the previous one:
* Will there be a way to swipe left within an article to open the in-app browser, as in Reeder classic?
* What about swiping up and down to jump across content?
* Are there any plans for a fully black background?
I’ve supported Reeder for years and it’s fun to try new ways to consume content!
@rizzi ref the lack of Feedly support I guess importing feeds from Feedly or from Reeder Classic would work.
@tekguru @rizzi You can export an OPML file from Reeder classic and import it in the new Reeder.
@multiuser @rizzi Ah ha I’d missed that, I’ll give it a try!
@multiuser @rizzi it did indeed work. All my feeds are great and seem quite workable.
The issue for me I guess is if I look to bring in my Mastodon account as in the new Reeder I don’t have any access to notifications etc.
@rizzi Congrats! Please add the “unread” bubble to the app and to each source, otherwise I need to review each one manually. Thanks!
@rizzi Congrats on the launch! The new app is just missing too much for me to switch (like organisation and layout options, or Feedbin’s muted phrases and email newsletter feeds). I look forward to future Reeder Classic features, and I’d definitely be willing to pay a subscription to help fund more frequent updates.
@rizzi Thank you for Reeder Classic over all these years and for committing to maintain it! I can actually see myself using both Classic and the new Reeder for different reasons (once you add Folders support).
@rizzi sorry but I can’t use it without the OPML subscription. That’s kinda neglecting free aspect.
@rizzi I subscribed to support but I don’t see any reason why I would go from classic to this version. I don’t see any benefits to switching. What am I missing?
@rizzi As an avid user of your software, I’m MORE than happy to support your work by buying the new version too (with yearly subscription), even if I keep using the the older version 🙂👍🏼
I adore Mela too.

@rizzi Have you considered subscriptions for Reeder Classic?

I'm not sure if the new "river of news with no read/unread status" works for me, but I do understand the need for stable subscription revenue.

@jrychter @rizzi He has considered it, and made the right decision not to force subscriptions on his loyal Reeder customers, it says it right there in his messages.

Feel free to use the new Reeder and pay a subscription.

@aeonx @rizzi Let me clarify my point. The new Reeder has a different model ("river of news") that doesn't suit me, so it is not an option for me as it exists now.

I wouldn't want to see Reeder Classic abandoned, and I understand that expecting a developer to indefinitely maintain/develop software that I paid $4.99 for five years ago is not realistic.

I suggested looking for other options — as a "loyal Reeder customer" I would be happy with a subscription, so that development is sustainable.

@jrychter @rizzi Not everyone has money to spare like you do. Going subscription for all because you want to is unfair. If you want to support him, tip him or gift Reeder 10x times and give the codes to your friends and family.

@aeonx I have too much respect for @rizzi to expect him to maintain and develop an app for <$1/year. But I also understand that not everyone has money to spare (though I do hope that people saying that aren't rushing to buy the latest phones right now).

So, perhaps:

* "Reeder Legacy" in maintenance mode only, no subscription
* Reeder Classic, same reading model, but developed, subscription
* Reeder, river of news model, subscription

I just don't want to see Reeder Classic abandoned.

@jrychter @rizzi So you say Reeder Classic makes <$1/year...

> As of now, Reeder Classic is in the top 10 on place 3 (just 2 ahead of it) from the Top Paid Apps on the Mac App Store in the News section, while the new Reeder is on place 11 from the Top Free Apps. iOS sales are separate additional income.
This means the old Reeder makes more money than the new one.

If you desperately want a subscription, then don't drag others with you. Perhaps a tip jar would be a good idea for people like you.

@jrychter @rizzi I just checked the iOS App Store sales...

Reeder Classic is Nr. 1 in the Top Paid Apps charts in the News section... NR. 1! Meanwhile the new Reeder is not even in the charts of the Top Free Apps in the News section.

As I said, these iOS sales are IN ADDITION to the Mac App Store sales.

Reeder Classic with a one time purchase makes A LOT MORE money, while the new Reeder with subscription makes A LOT LESS money.

Rizzi doesn't need charity for Reeder Classic to exist.

@aeonx @rizzi Sadly, the only people who have an understanding of software economics are the developers who actually make a living from selling software (yes, I am one).

Everybody else seems to think that App Store is somehow a magical gateway to infinite riches, even though every customer pays $1/year.

Here is an estimate of what Reeder Classic might be earning monthly today. And that's a very popular app!

Subscriptions are the only sustainable way to finance software development.

@jrychter @rizzi yadayadayada. You think you know it all because you're a developer. I have two brothers with a Master of Science in CS, and one brother with a PhD in CS. They're all developers, and we all talk a lot about software engineering and tech.
@jrychter @rizzi If you want to give Rizzi a lot of money, go ahead! If you want to pay a subscription, subscribe to the new Reeder! And leave the Reeder Classic users alone with the one-time-purchase! Don't be so arrogant to enforce your opinion on everyone else who may disagree with you, and don't patronise Rizzi with wanting to help him get more money... he is an adult, a successful developer, and he knows how he wants to make money from his users. He doesn't need your well-meaning advice.
@jrychter @rizzi End of discussion for me. I don't want your inevitable virtue signalling ("look, I'm a developer, that means I know better!"), better-knowing, patronising answer.
@rizzi loving this! this is the intersection of reading that i've been after. insta-subscribe. the keyboard shortcuts can't come fast enough. 😜
@rizzi Thank you for doing it the right way with Reeder Classic. It's still the best RSS reader out there, and I appreciate you valuing your longtime customers.
@rizzi Thanks a lot for publish Reeder+. My first experience is great. Actually i missing the count for unread elements on the items. And I also missing the folders. Will they implemented in the current version? Thanks for support.

@rizzi
now I found the answers to my questions in the help ;)

I have two wishes/questions:
It is possible to export alle feeds via OPML etc.?
It is possible to implement a search function?

Thanks for help.

@rizzi I brought the old versions of the app and I just have one request: can you please add one-time purchase option on the new app? @rizzi
@rizzi not having unread count on the sources makes the new Reeder totally useless… It’s like you turn my feed into a facebook like mess where i can’t track what i would like to read/listen/watch later. As a DJ I used the Classic version to keep on track on new music releases and such things. I’m glad you keep the classic around but that also has some huge missing features like being able to filter out some content…
@rizzi Will there be a trial subscription available? I would like to get a better feeling for how Reeder could replace my current Reeder Classic setup w/Feedly for RSS-Feeds.
@rizzi Why is there no Lifetime avalable? I hate subscriptions. Everyone is doing this terrible subscription stuff.
@jensreinhardt @rizzi yeah please include lifetime purchase please
@jensreinhardt @rizzi I see where you’re coming from-but here’s my take on this: I think @rizzi does a great job here. The “old” Reeder isn’t going away. The new Reeder is free to start. Evaluate it, and if you like it, consider subscribing. It’s affordable. It’s the income of a sole Indy developer. For me, this goes into consideration-I’m not working for free for my employer neither.
@appfrosch I understand. But it's a matter of principle. If I do justice to everyone, who introduces a subscription, I'm poor. We only have these subscriptions because one person has started and everyone is following. A social problem once again! And I don't think that the Reader Classic is maintained with the same value as the new one. But I will definitely take a look at the app.
@jensreinhardt I guess emphasis will be on the new app, you might be right about that. Which is fair in my books, cause why should you get new features for free for the old app you paid once for and potentially have been using for years? As long as updates are provided so that it keeps running for a substantial additional time, that’ll be fine. But hey, we can always agree to disagree. Different opinions at important, and I respect yours.
@appfrosch Thank you, unfortunately that is rare. The price is really very fair for the app. Almost too cheap for the quality. But basically I just have something against subscriptions.
@rizzi Love what I see so far! How can I import my feeds from Reeder Classic? Do I have to subscribe first then use the OPML import feature?
@jessety @rizzi Yeah. Looks amazing. But would be great if it could do a one-off OPML import to get classic users up and running.

@jessety @rizzi Ah. Free plan is limited to 10 feeds.

Still feels like this needs more ability to try it out.

@rizzi awesome. Can I import my Reeder Classic feeds or so I have to add them all manually again?
@simonharper feeds can be exported in Reeder Classic as OPML and then imported into the new Reeder
@dantemh only if you subscribe. Seems a shame. Surely the import process could give the user a pic list of just 10 (the free limit) feeds to import.
@rizzi pricing seems to be off in Canada for the new Reeder. Cheaper to subscribe monthly?
@mrjosh @rizzi Same in Sweden, 9kr per month (109kr for 12 minuts) and 129kr per year.
