fediverse relays are like the Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) of the fediverse

i've spun up a new one @ https://relay.disobey.net that runs on bare metal and has a 10Gbps uplink. i gave it 16 threads, and it only supports TLS 1.3

but i'm curious -- what are other's experiences running relays? for example, this one is fully open, anyone can join it. what does that mean for moderation?

@yawnbox I run relay.intahnet.co.uk. In terms of moderation.... I do very little.

Occasionally, I do a quick (manual) check to see if any subscribed instance is an obvious malicious instance, but other than that, not too much.

I think in regards to relays, it's easier for instance owners to moderate their own relays instead of relay owners to do it.
