Tell me a movie or TV show that was better (bonus points if WAY better) than the book(s).

My own nominations:

- The Expanse
- The 100

@design_law
The Expanse is an odd one. The books and the tv series have serious differences but both are absolutely great in every way.
@design_law controversially, I quite enjoyed the 2009 Watchmen movie, and appreciated most of the plot changes.
@design_law A.I. Bezzerides' screenplay for Kiss Me Deadly (1955) was vastly better than the Mickey Spillane book (1952). And everything else about the movie was perfect, too.
@design_law maybe the three body problem for me, I really enjoyed the book but found it difficult to visualise, and the series just blew me away (I think because I read the book first)
@design_law The Mouse That Roared. Peter Sellers took the whole thing to many new levels.

@design_law

Altered Carbon.

The TV show trimmed things that leaded the book, making more fun.

The worst change was the wife of the meth: in the TV show, the actress was around 40; in the book, she had the body of a 17 years old girl, which made things much, much more creepy, reinforcing the idea that the meth were terrible people.

@design_law @danblondell The Hunt for Red October. Great book but an even better, tighter movie.
@design_law Jaws. By far in my 1970s teenage memory. Movie removed romantic sub plot which is always a win in my book.
@design_law Stardust is the one that springs to mind for me.

@design_law

The Godfather
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (the book and the stage play; and that's hard to say because I love Kesey)

@design_law The Princess Bride (and, I’ve heard, Jaws).
@design_law Starship Troopers, Dexter(ses1), The Underground Railroad(tbf haven't read the book but the show is pretty great)
