"‘Homicide’ Is One of the Best TV Shows Ever. And It Is Finally Streaming"

Written by David Simon, who brought us The Wire, along with a host of other great stuff.

Streaming on Peacock. This is a big get for the service and a natural fit (an NBC show).

The article below is a gift article, should work, at least in the US.

‘Homicide’ Is One of the Best TV Shows Ever. And It Is Finally Streaming

For years, the foundational cop drama, based on the book by David Simon (“The Wire”), languished in DVD-only purgatory. No longer.

@davemark pale imitation of the real “Homicide” 😂

@bgrinter Fun to watch, though I have no idea what that was.

@davemark Homicide was an Australian TV crime show that ran from 1964 until 1977. It was the first major locally made drama and a lot of episodes were based on real cases.

Whilst ground breaking at the time, in that episode the car being chased changed to a different model during the chase!

@davemark the production company did a huge number of shows for all the networks, Homicide, Division 4, Matlock Police were all made around the same time for each of the 3 local networks.
@bgrinter Fascinating. I'm a big time Australian show fan. Favorites include Rake, Mr. Inbetween, Fisk, and Troppo. Any others you'd strongly recommend?

@davemark
One of their police crime shows in the 70s was called Bluey - nothing to do with the cartoon dog

In the 90s a comedy show took select episodes and redubbed them with new dialogue and called it Bargearse. Most of them are up on YouTube now - hilarious

@davemark what types of shows are you in to?
@bgrinter Pretty wide range. Mysteries, police procedurals, sci-fi, fantasy, anime, romcoms, all sorts of stuff.

@davemark

Lots of good crime shows, this gives you a few to start with along with trailers

Mystery Road, Rake and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are all good

Blue Heelers was hugely popular but 12 years of episodes is a bit of a commitment

@davemark sad to report that music licensing diminished my favorite sequence of that show, the S6E10 montage set to Sinnerman. At least the replacement track (Runner) samples Nina’s version.
@davemark Homicide was the last TV show I watched regularly (and taped if I was going to miss it).
@davemark Susan Ingram, a camera assistant for the series, and Chris Carr, a writer and producer, are making the “Homicide: Life on the Set podcast.” It features many cast and crew members from the show. The current episode, #7, features my friends and colleagues, sound department members Lorenzo Millan & Paul Flinton. https://homicidelifeontheset.com/
