@malwaretech The first cycle indeed just rinse, but that is not useless as there are lots of stuff which is removed that way. It also uses cold water, so that the powder will not be much effective.
Most dishwashers can operate this "rinse" cycle alone, you can see for yourself how effective it is. I normally operate it if I only have half a load so that the dishwasher will only be run the next day.

I would doubt advices from TikTok, in general.

@dl2jml @malwaretech it's your lucky day https://youtube.com/watch?v=jHP942Livy0 @TechConnectify did a comprehensive video on how to best run a dishwasher and why, if you're into that kind of kinky shit

@raven667
Please do not ask me to watch youtube videos.

I don't like videos, they normally take 10 minutes to tell me stuff which can be written in 2 sentences.
I am not interested in "influencers", I don't believe someone's opinion is more valuable because of more followers.
I won't like or follow, because I don't have a google account.
I hate advertisement, either official or slightly disguised as a video.

Thank you.

@dl2jml @raven667 you're really missing out on Alec's videos then. He has a way of explaining the ordinary in a fascinating way.
Come and waste time with us. Join us.
@vandorb12
No, thank you.

@dl2jml If you don't want to watch a video, simply move along. Your comments complaining about the video are annoying unwanted clutter to those of us who do want video links.

@raven667 @vandorb12 Alec's video about dishwasher operations is excellent, thanks for sharing it as I had lost a link to it and wanted to send it to a family member.

I use a teaspoon each of borax and washing soda in the initial rinse cycle -- much cheaper than adding more dishwasher detergent and as effective.

@femme_mal
My post was boosted about 10 times so it stands to reason that I am not alone to be against youtube videos. This is mastodon: most users came here to be in a user managed, decentralized social network. They don't want to be sent to a corporate, paid by advertising social network as youtube is. 1/2

@femme_mal
But there are easy solutions for video lovers:

1: post link to peertube, a user managed, decentralized video platform or

2: at the very least, write a short summary of the video you send people to so that they can check whether it is worth their time to watch it. Here: "that video teaches to use warm water for the first rinse". 2/2

@dl2jml blah blah blah blah blah

@dl2jml And yet you continue to clutter this thread with unrelated policing of discussion.

Let me liberate you to move on.

*block*

@dl2jml @femme_mal Let me guess, you also get upset when folks don’t prefix Linux with GNU and sit on HF frequencies that others are using to hold them open for a net. Or is it unfair to paint someone with such a broad brush based on incomplete information?
@dl2jml @femme_mal Tp quote somebody with 10 boosts, by their own account: "No, thank you."
@dl2jml @femme_mal at least one of those boosts was someone explaining why your post was toxic.
Engagements are not endorsements, and treating them as such reveals a marked lack of understanding in how places like this work.
@dl2jml @femme_mal
Just filter 'youtube' and 'youtu.be' from your feed and move on with your life.
@dl2jml omg. What’s wrong with you.
@dl2jml @raven667 here's the tl;dr to the video. The first cycle is SUPPOSED to be hot, and it's supposed to use detergent.
This isn't a life hack, this is how dishwashers are designed to work.

@raven667 @kevingranade The first cycle in European dishwashers is cold and without detergent. Heating water uses a lot of energy.

European dishwashers use typically 0,6-0,8 kWh per wash and are only connected to a cold water inlet.

@dl2jml @raven667 @kevingranade For what it's worth my Canadian dishwasher is hooked to hot water and uses 400-600 wH for a 2h31m cycle. Add on whatever energy is used to heat 15 litres to the temperature that constitutes "hot, but safe" water here, which is done by a gigantic gas boiler in my apartment building's basement.

@swars
This looks like it could be a useful ressource. Thanks.

Obviously, it would not solve the problem that a sizable proportion of youtube videos are thinly disguised advertisements, but at least it saves time.

@dl2jml @raven667 It’s a good video, TC is not an “influencer” and it’s really disrespectful of you to put him in that category. He makes YT vids, they are really well researched and many people find them interesting. This site isn’t just about you, plenty of other people might find the video useful. If you don’t like it fine, but don’t police other people’s posting please and thank you.
@raven667 @karlstanley I have no idea who "TC" is because I did not watch the video. I don't want to watch youtube. What is so difficult to understand?
Why is suddenly this post of mine unearthed after a week with dozens of of people boosting it (presumably because they agree) and 3 others telling me -again- that youtube is the best invention since the wheel?
@dl2jml you must be fun at parties 😉

@dl2jml @raven667

There’s a lot of good shit on YT. None of which is advertising.

Just people helping people out with instructions.

@dl2jml @raven667

I hate YouTube instructions because they often waste time on the obvious and for the not obvious I want a static diagram I can look at to examine in detail.

And it it's instructions for a product I bought I do not need to watch someone taking it out of the box.

@dl2jml @raven667 You're right about being told to watch a video, it's annoying & videos are difficult to follow & extract information from. However this guy is actually pretty a good source of information, not an "influencer" type person, & not an advertiser (not sure if he does sponsorships because I haven't seen his videos in a while since I also rarely touch YouTube, but I don't think he does those, I use SponsorBlock anyway). If you're waiting ten minutes for the information you want in his videos, it's because he's giving lots of other information & not padding it. The only thing I wish he did differently is paste a wall of source links in his videos descriptions for people who want to read more or skip the video.

If you ever do have the time, his videos actually feel good to watch & you learn something from them, mostly about vintage or obsolete technologies, definitely check out his stuff.

@dl2jml @raven667 Congratulations on being Jackass of the Day.
@chasnah
Whom are you calling a jackass here? You send your message to two persons.
@dl2jml if you’re not self aware enough to know the answer then the internet might not be for you.
@dl2jml @raven667 I will watch video content, but not usually by clicking a link off a Mastodon post. I'm much more likely to click that video if it's not hosted off-site. Video content is for when I'm folding laundry or something and need background noise. If I have a question and need a quick answer, video content is the least efficient form of getting it.
@dl2jml Are you always lashing out on random people for trying to help you or only when you feel particularly entitled?

@dl2jml
>Enters Youtuber toot (or whatever Mastodon calls them)
>Complains about having to see Youtubers... YOUTUBE VIDEO...

...You do know you could've kept scrolling/kept it moving and said nothing, right?
---

And Mastodon wonders why it has the reputation it does.

(Anyway, back to ignoring this social media network. Toodles!)

@dl2jml @raven667

the amount of assumptions on character for something you didnt even take 2 seconds to click on

lmao

@dl2jml @raven667

I once ran across two years of design and coding which had been explained (documented would be too much of a stretch) - in video.

Inexpressibly horrible.

@dl2jml Please do not ask me to read your posts.

I don't like posts, which take up paragraphs space on my timeline just to tell me a person I know nothing about doesn't want to watch a video. I feel so strongly about this that I feel weirdly compelled to broadcast to as many random strangers as possible that I don't want to see your posts.

Thank you.

@dl2jml @raven667 Sure, and I am fully onboard with that. But you got linked a Technology Connections video, not some influencer-loves-to-hear-themselves-talk shit.

Which, as you correctly point out, could usually be ~2 sentences.

But despite what some might say, there **is** a lot of **really** good content on Youtube. 😛

@dl2jml @raven667 @TechConnectify Why did you have to say that? Don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it!
@dl2jml honestly same
Much better to read about something instead of it being said slowly "but not before shifting our focus to today's sponsor" and whatnot
I started watching pretty much everything in 1.5x speed to combat most of this nonsense, and even that is too slow at times

@dl2jml @raven667

Then don't watch them. What is wrong with you?

Nobody is forcing you to watch anything. Dude is making educational content that's entertaining.

You sound like a Karen; needlessly harassing someone for nothing close to a real problem.

@FryCarson You answered a message that is two months old.

@dl2jml I responded to a bunch of messages older I believe.

Is your comment related to more than the age of what I responded to?
