@davidgerard every encounter I have with a mozilla employee involves them pretending to speak for a community I’m a member of and playing fuckface word games when an actual member of the community tells them they’re misrepresenting us.

no, nobody doing AI critique is confused about what we’re criticizing. that doesn’t make sense. but mozilla would like to convince us we’re mad about a pre-LLM translation model or whatever’s convenient. we’ve dealt with that form of critihype before.

@firefoxwebdevs @SamatSattarov and while we’re here

I know it’s very popular among PR fuckfaces to claim that your justifiably angry users are confused as a way to control the discussion.

none of us are confused. all of us know a dark pattern when we see it. plenty of us have had to implement them for our dickhead employers. none of us want our consent violated by a browser we’ve previously done advocacy for. no, you don’t get to dictate what a consent violation looks like for your users.

One thing I find tough about mastodon is that the kind of people who do threads of jokes in the replies almost *never* get the assignment, and the jokes are terrible. Not just unfunny, but abjectly cringe-inducing.

Old twitter was good at this, reddit is decent (and the UI makes it much easier to skip), bsky is so-so.

@spamhaus I have an IP on your list, but your form won't accept my only email address (a gmail). So what do I do now?

Seeing usually smart folks getting rope-a-doped into arguing for LLM utility like there's a moral justice zero-sum trolley-problem slider between "useful" and "ethical" and we're just arguing about the best setting

But the real problem is even dumber

-is its mere use a climate disaster? Yes
-is its data provenance founded on theft? Also yes
-will it be used to ruin ordinary workers' lives? Yup
-will it ruin countless organizations who think they're buying their way to cheap labor? That too

Would you prefer that YOU ARE HIDDEN on the Fediverse?

That nobody (new) ever follows you?

That nobody (new) ever sees your posts?

I KNOW THIS QUESTION SEEMS WEIRD, BUT — THERE IS A SMALL GROUP THAT IS CURRENTLY ARGUING MOST PEOPLE ON THE FEDIVERSE WANT TO BE HIDDEN IN THIS WAY

They don't represent me. And I don't think they should (even implicitly) speak for me

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE HIDDEN LIKE THIS — PLEASE VOTE "NO"

Please boost for reach.

@brewsterkahle Brewster just trying you again on this. Are the hardware and software toolchain open source for the TT Scribe? I can't find anything.
@brewsterkahle Hi Brewster, has the Archive posted the design files and software for the most recent version of the Tabletop Scribe anywhere? I haven't been able to find them.
