Intermittent reminder for the youngsters out there who see a scorecard or even a box score showing a pitcher throwing for 9 innings. This is what is known as a complete game.

Nowadays a thing to be celebrated but in the olden days it was the expectation for the pitcher, just another day at the office.

It’s a 3 dice system my dad designed, loosely based off a couple other games. Not sure what. He passed in 2020 so I can’t ask him. I’ve made some further modifications to enhance the gameplay and accuracy.

@tabletopmania @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov Nicely done...a 3 die system reminds me of Pursue the Pennant, which I think was adopted to computer as Diamond Mind Baseball.

I'm in the process of writing up a new league #simulation that I'll probably play in OOTP, but it's so extensive at this point that I am waiting to get a larger gaming computer on which to run it. You can read about it at https://atlantic-computing.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=10803
A new simulation: the Proper MLB - The Boardwalk

@scooter @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov
Very cool. What year are you operating this simulation in? I’d love to follow it when you start.

I actually own the 1987 version of Pursue the Pennant. I’ve only played it a few times.

@scooter @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov

I’m also curious how you would organize your rosters? Fun project idea. I’m having a lot of fun with this historical project. I’m considering bringing it back for a “year 2” or replaying an actual season. 2002 has been on my mind lately. I’ve got about a year to figure it out before I finish this one.

@tabletopmania @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov The sim would start in modern day, but as I explain on the forum, there are a lot of changes in the rules and such that essentially take it back to the 90s; and the biggest change takes it back even further, as I'm eliminating the DH.

Rosters are generally going to be 12 pitchers/13 position players. I haven't decided whether to use current players or fictional players, since it's going to be so huge...one thing I have done in the past is to bring back some interesting historical players under different names, just to see if they'd perform the same way. Not only superstars, but some lesser-known, less accomplished ones as well, like Mario Mendoza.

@scooter @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov

Using current players is cool and maybe you could draft historical players or even historical teams to fill out the rosters? You’d definitely need a way to keep from making teams too powerful or just providing some balance. How many teams are you looking at?

@tabletopmania @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov Yeah, there's the rub! There are 32 teams in the Majors, as they absorbed the PCL and Continental League...but there's also promotion and relegation established with two other leagues, also with 32 teams each. Plus the associated minors for each franchise, and that's not counting the independent foreign leagues. So...yeah, this is why I'm waiting for a box with a very large processor to come in!

@scooter @RuthODay @olliethewobbly @AlexanderRaine7 @cardboardkarl @APBAreplay @YusufToropov

Regardless, I love it. I hope you’ll post results here when you start. My buddy Cliff had an idea for a league that could’ve happened if the Federal League had beat out the AL and NL and what modern baseball might look like if that happened. There’s all kinds of cool ideas out there. I love seeing them come out.
