âš½ I've described the Canadian soccer system as more of a lean-to than a pyramid.

Now there are rumours that MLS wants to create a 3rd Tier 1 women's soccer league after NWSL and the USL Super League.

Instead of a soccer pyramid, it appears the US is trying to build a soccer henge.

Kinda nice to know that the Canadian Soccer Association isn't the only federation that's absurd.

But it's also kind of infuriating.

I also fear this has the potential to undermine the National Super League.

One advantage the NSL has over the #CanPL is that there is no other Tier 1 pro league to compete with in Canada.

But if MLS goes this way, then the Canadian MLS teams may try to set up shop, NSL will have to compete for attention and credibility.

It’s only a meaningful pyramid if there’s promotion/relegation. Quality will never get there without the jeopordy of dropping or the reward of rising. Doesn’t suit owners though.

@lee_eyres Yup.

At that time I came up with the "lean-to" description, MLS was in the Wikipedia page for the Canadian soccer system. Maybe we get pro-rel someday, but MLS teams will never be a part.

It's gone now, but given that there is not even a tier 2, it's still not a "stable structure".

I'm honestly not sure how we'll get there, given the current business models. The best I can come up with is a parallel competition involving all Canadian teams.

If Canada does it properly it could produce a higher quality than the US. That would be fun!!
