@GottaLaff Thanks for sharing this. It was great. I think O'Donnell sees this because he's a traditional journalist, whereas most "journalists" aren't. We don't have journalism anymore. We have entertainment and stories designed to drive clicks and chase ad dollars. The business model of most news outlets reinforces these bad practices.

@GottaLaff well holy shit O’Donnell is the man! Someone finally speaks a little reality check on the media. You folks are not doing the job. We’ve been watching this cowardly favoritism for Trump for years and I, for one, am tired of the wordsmithing hijinks of the press! What a refreshing moment to have someone call them out on it! Almost would make me start watching the news again, but I gave it up a long time ago, just heartsick at the daily bullshit. And the speech! Kamala’s speech to the UAW was incredible and inspiring and the networks didn’t show it! So O’Donnell is right that social media has a role to play in this. Don’t let them get away with silencing Kamala while they grovel before the lies of Donald Trump!

@GottaLaff and I’m sorry, I’ve got to add this. Donald Trump turned the press into collaborators in destroying the integrity of a once honorable profession, journalism. What O’Donnell did last night was beyond a blast of fresh air. It was a damning condemnation of those who have collaborated in the destruction.

Media destroyed itself in 2002/2003 by never questioning Iraq's weapons of mass destruction narrative.

Media were on the path to self destruction in the 90s with the rise of "infotainment".

Uncritically accepting lies and prioritizing viewing figures over factuality. It's been long in the making.

The state of our media is a huge disservice to the people of this country. O’Donnell’s piece is absolutely required viewing. We cannot allow the media to continue to attack Harris while giving Trump a pass. They need to call out Trump’s lies, and they need to apply the same standards to how they interview each candidate. The people need fairness and honesty in the reporting, not a thumb on the scale to hand the election to Trump.

I'm glad he did this. I was thinking this very same thing as the press conference went on. On the ex-bird site I remarked in real time to MSNBC, as the event droned on, «Why give free air to Trump spewing a nonstop series of unchecked lies? STOP. There's no "news" here. No policy. No action. He offers incitement, you offer credibility. If you looked back to media doing such for Hitler, how would you describe their role? Neutral? Proper?»

I had meant to go on longer in that thread, but I just couldn't bear it. I was thinking back to how many times in the 2016 campaign MSNBC had a chyron saying "Breaking news: Trump about to speak". It seemed almost daily and was infuriating. No other candidate got that daily bump. MSNBC should have credited itself later as one of his biggest soft donors. If democracy falls this time, they will be due part credit. But it won't save them from being thrown in jail by Emperor Trump I.

Sadly, the best description I've come up with to describe the relationship of MSNBC and Trump is the old joke, here told by Woody Allen in Annie Hall, that ends with "we need the eggs" ... except this is only a metaphor, and the real sutuation is no joke.

I am so glad I did!
I hope he has gotten his fellow "journalists" attention. He is an old school reporter and that's exactly what we need in these dangerous times.
