You can register #XMPP account for free on xmpp.social for example.

However, my consideration is to also offer a #Mastodon installation on this domain (or something else for the social web).

Problem is: either you will have two separate accounts or I need to move the existing accounts over to my LDAP server and connect both services via LDAP.
Separated accounts will have the challenge to prevent that two persons register the same nick on both sides.

What would you prefer?

@ij Ich trauere immernoch unserem #XMPP Server am Institut nach. Schön, dass sich noch welche für #XMPP engagieren! Leider scheint das XMPP Ökosystem insbesondere was die Deskop Clients angeht zu erodieren. Der brauchbarste MacOS Client (#AdiumX) wird seit Jahren nicht mehr gepflegt. Kennt jemand eine brauchbare Alternative (nicht Konsole).

Ich habe selbst keine Äpfel, aber es gibt für macOS #Beagle, bzw. sollten auch @gajim und @dino unter macOS funktionieren. Aber ich weiß nicht ob das ootb geht oder ob man da frickeln muss.

@mdosch BeagleIM habe ich jetzt installiert und werde es testen. Es wirkt auf den erstem Blick spartanisch, was ja nicht schlecht sein muss :)

Auf selber kompilieren oder eine wie ein Fremdkörper wirkende GTK Anwendung habe ich auf dem Mac nicht unbedingt Lust. Die "Frickelei" findet unter Linux / OpenBSD statt ;)

Naja, bei debian sind Gajim und Dino nur ein 'apt install' weit entfernt. Null Gefrickel. 😂
