Wake up babe, new furry elevator stress test meta just dropped.

Meanwhile, at the *other* con hotel.

Oh no. Vulnerability exposed.

@notthatdelta "Please use the back-up. For back-up, we offer stairs, which are a thing that looks like this [picture] and can be located in these directions [arrows]."
@notthatdelta Someone should just like leave a little stick in the elevator for attendees to press the buttons with
@mcc I for one would use a con-branded elevator-poking stick!
@notthatdelta @mcc Brilliant!

@DeltaWye @notthatdelta @mcc

"The paw you have used to call the lift is too fluffy. To obtain a special dialling wand, mash the button with your snoot now"

@mcc @notthatdelta thanks, now I'm thinking of the dialling wand from the Simpsons. XD

@mcc Maybe the con could hire a helper non-furry to press the pawrly designed buttons.

@notthatdelta

@riley @notthatdelta ooh and they could wear a little red uniform with big buttons

@mcc Big, friendly, furry-compatible buttons!

@notthatdelta

@riley @mcc I haven't volunteered at a con in a couple years, but I absolutely WOULD volunteer for this role!
@notthatdelta now I want to see fursuit makers integrate an NFC chip into the noses so suiters can open doors and call elevators with their "noseprint" 🤣
@atkelar @notthatdelta You know I heard stories about people’s suits being lost or stolen(WTF) - that would be the perfect place to covertly embed an AirTag or similar tracker.

@notthatdelta Unless they’re hitting the STOP button that shouldn’t cause problems worse than the elevator going to each floor.

Crazy solution would be to see if the elevator controller has a “Sabbath/Shabbat Mode” they could put the elevator in. No button pushing required. Just goes up and down automatically to each floor. Takes ages though.

@DeltaWye I haven't looked at these elevators (I always stay in the hotel across the street) but I assume furs are hitting an emergency stop or fire alarm button.

I get it, but it's still funny!

@notthatdelta That’s probably the most likely explanation.

@DeltaWye ...and now the elevators in our hotel are also broken.

I swear, furries can fix *anything* but somehow destroy elevators just by existing near them.

@notthatdelta @DeltaWye From past experience ... more likely it's a mixture of exceeding the rated duty cycle (how many minutes of use per hour), and a small number of likely-drunk people deciding to see if they can trip the weight sensor and make the lift go "beep, overweight".
Problem is, sometimes they trip the cable break sensor too, and that makes the controller lock the lift offline until it's checked out by a technician.
@philpem @notthatdelta I’ve got to call my colleague at a major elevator drive manufacturer to see if they can add a “DFR” (Drunk Furry Rated) to their elevator drives.

@notthatdelta
Badly designed if you can accidentally bump into such a button.

@DeltaWye

@notthatdelta Well that's a new one.
.... what if my paws are non-removable?

@philpem shoot, I'd pay money for actual real paws.

Not being able to use elevators seems like a fair tradeoff.

@notthatdelta Now that's what I call an ESD test.

Which is honestly surprising, I'd have figured they'd be relatively well protected against that..

@tursiae that actually makes more sense than my initial thought (paws hitting multiple buttons or an emergency button).

But I agree, that's something I would expect an elevator to be built to resist. Maybe the increased frequency of discharges or the magnitude of the discharges is exceeding some limit?

@notthatdelta My guess would be the magnitude? Most people would be generating a charge from a synthetic shirt or something like that; there's a lot more surface area between the long fibres of a fursuit paw's fur.
@Phyxis @notthatdelta heh, is this up in Canada? Maybe someone is posting a joke sign to get good laughs from their friends at Fur-Eh?
@Phyxis @notthatdelta oh wait I'm seeing it's Utah. So many events folks have this same weekend! 🐾

@deviantollam @Phyxis yep, Utah for this con!

The summer months are very popular for conventions (which never made sense to me - try wearing 40lbs+ of fur and foam in the summer). It's a bit of a bummer having to choose one con and miss out on the others.

@notthatdelta we need to add furries to the list of ADA protected categories

@foone "emotional support fursuit"

It's not even an exaggeration, honestly!

@notthatdelta How would paws hurt a lift's buttons?
@notthatdelta I would like details on how the furries are breaking the elevators. Fault when too many buttons are pushed at the same time, maybe? Can we set up an experiment?
