Running Down The Walls

❮ ❯ ALT  1 / 3 rdtw-2024.jpg Artwork that shows a side view of three Sailor moon-like characters positioned side by side in a running motion. They are all wearing black t-shirts. The character in the middle has light colored hair while the two on the outside have dark colored hair. The closest character has the Anarchist Black Cross symbol printed on the left shoulder sleeve. The symbol is a left fist clenching a piece of broken barbed wire, and the wrist is making a cross with the letters "ABC." The character furthest away is wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. Text above image reads "Running Down The Walls." Below the image is two pieces of barbed wire with text between them that reads "Anarchist Black Cross Philly 2024." Close ALT  2 / 3 rdtw-2024-free-gaza-political-prisoners-black.jpg Drawing of three people. Two of them are running and the other is in a wheelchair, depicting that Running Down The Walls is an accessible event. The person in the wheelchair is wearing a t-shirt and has long light colored hair. The person running in front is wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh, a tank top shirt, and has long dark colored hair. The person running in the back is also wearing a tank top shirt, but has short dark colored hair. In the background is a crumbling Gaza wall with cracks and mangled barbed wire. Text surrounding the image reads "Running Down The Walls 2024. Free Gaza. Free political prisoners. Resist fascism." Close ALT  3 / 3 ben-passmore-rdtw-2024.jpg Drawing of the Gaza prison wall at night with stars shining above, and several bottles and pieces of broken wall on the ground in front. A large hole in the middle of the wall makes the shape of a person running, and the barbed wire at top is mangled to spell the words "Running Down The Walls." Remaining parts of the wall are covered in anarchist, anti-authoritarian, pro-resistance, and pro-Palestine graffiti which includes symbols of a machete, clenched fist, the "N" from the international squatters symbol, and the anarchist circle-A. Graffiti text reads "free Palestine," "free the land," "from the river to the sea," "Fanon," "FTP," and "ACAB." Drawing is by Ben Passmore. #RDTW is more than a 5K—it’s a day to uplift our comrades behind bars, in courtrooms, and in the streets. Over the last six years the #Philly RDTW raised $52,876 for political prisoners and movements for liberation and self-determination. Let’s do it again on September 15th!

Running Down The Walls 2023 Reportback

We’re pleased to report the success from the sixth annual Philadelphia Running Down The Walls in support of political prisoners and prisoners of war, and the movement to #StopCopCity. Before we go any further, we'd like to give the biggest shout out to the prisoners that participated from inside the walls. The inside-to-outside participation is one of the most important parts of this yearly event. Our inside participants this year included: Jerome Coffey, Mumia Abu-Jamal, Paul Kali Hickman, John Bramble, and Beans (Abednego Baynes).

Philly ABC

This year marks the 25th anniversary of this non-competitive 5K and political education event!

Across Turtle Island and across the ocean, RDTW has taken place inside and outside of prisons since 1999.

You read correctly—prisoners do this with us! The importance of this inside-outside solidarity cannot be overstated.

Running is not required! You can also walk, bike, skate, roll, cheer, etc.

If you can’t make the event, or if you want to make additional contributions, please sponsor a participant either outside or inside prison, or both! Contact us for more info on sponsoring.

For over 75 years, Palestinians have been forced into a multi-faceted struggle for their lives and relationship to the land. A process of colonization and genocide started with the 1948 Nakba involving the destruction of approximately 600 Palestinian villages.

(5/11)

The Naksa in 1967 marked the beginning of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, expelling more than 300,000 Palestinians from their homes.

(6/11)

In addition to the approximate 21,000 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons, more than 2.3 million remain trapped inside roughly 40 miles of barricades around the Gaza Strip, making it the world’s largest open-air prison.

(7/11)

Children as young as 12 years old can be prosecuted, and hundreds are detained each year. The apartheid-based travel restrictions make it difficult for family members and even lawyers to visit them. Out of 35,000 Palestinians murdered by Israel, 13,000 were children.
