@astrid *blinks*
@gsuberland i havent yet done the math on whether this is a functional way to survey for an average, but it was too funny not to post anyway
@astrid hmm. off the top of my head I *think* it lets you calculate the skew of the distribution, but the mean will have an error bound somewhere in the order of +48.5%/-0% lol

@astrid These results are, more or less, exactly what we would expect. Most popular answer is the middle choice. Second most popular is the first choice. The rest have a fairly normal distribution following a mostly intact bell curve.

Gods, we love the inherent patterns that exist within "random" data sets.

@mousefriend sorry but i dont see the pattern you describe.
@astrid it vanished after we posted. 😭😭😭 We literally posted, looked back at your poll, and the pattern was gone.
We predict it will return given a large enough sample, but also by stating this publicly where people can see it we are affecting the outcome in some way, so who knows tbh.
@astrid why no b0
@nils_ballmann @astrid right? RIGHT?!

@astrid isn't 1 the only number expressed as base 2? Had to choose it.
@istoff its multichoice! pick the answers that add up to your favourite. you know. like binary numbers work.
@astrid I was just being difficult. I'm happy with my choice though.
@istoff why be difficult when you could just have a good time? honest question
@astrid honest answer. I'm really bad at conveying my intent. I should have used a smiley or something. I answered in humor but it was lost in the black and white text. I'm going to a funeral now and your post actually made me smile. No more negativity from now on. I'll reread my replies a bit more carefully.

@astrid @istoff ohhhhhhhhhhhhh

I read this as “which numbered bits can possibly be <= 31” so only the first few options are valid

@ZiggyTheHamster @astrid my main mistake was to assume I had to pick one option only. Only figured it out later. My bad.
@astrid my company phone number was 1300 124816
@astrid Pretty much the only thing I can deduce from the results is that the majority of people's favorite numbers are even.
@astrid big endian or little endian?
@astrid I love how my misunderstanding of the original poll intent is reflected in the scores.

@astrid Now that this is closed, I'll ask another question in response.

In base ten (decimal) what is your favourite number? 5, A, F, 3C

There was only one answer to your question because only "1" is the only base-2 number given. For those answers to make sense the question would be " What is your favourite power of 2?"
