Musk is inviting his red-state pals to prosecute people who dare to advise advertisers to stay away from his toxic swamp.

This is what right-wing extremists like Musk actually think about free speech. (They hate it when it's directed, unfavorably, at them.)

Is there a list of current deadbird site advertisers? I want to stay current on businesses to avoid in my shopping.

Elon Musk calls for “criminal prosecution” of X ad boycott perpetrators

Congress accused advertisers group of colluding to tank X's revenue.

@dangillmor this must be the, uh, "free market" that, uh, conservatives say they love
@benroyce @dangillmor More «freedom for me, not for thee» from the hypocrites. There is no duty for a company to advertise in a medium. What if, say, a struggling local town newspaper was able to demand that, say, Ford had to advertise in their paper? Makes no sense. As it makes no sense that Twitter should.

@toriver @dangillmor

they have zero principles

they will scream angrily about some point: abortion, religious freedom, state's rights, the free market, etc, and then, with zero cognitive dissonance, openly defile the same words they were just screaming about a moment before: they'll get an abortion, they'll disrespect someone's religious freedom, they'll impose federal over state, they'll propose draconian market controls, etc

this is conservatism. this is all it is: complete bullshit

@benroyce @toriver @dangillmor the best part is their absolute refusal to process the incompatibility when it's pointed out. Like https://youtu.be/BKorP55Aqvg entirely unironically 🥲

@ketmorco @toriver @dangillmor

conservatives don't process their hypocrisy because they don't care. they never did, about any principle they hang their hat on, no matter how fucked up or plausible the principle

the simple truth is they have no coherent principles, except hate and selfishness and sadism. the rest is just performance art

edit: nice sketch 😆

@ketmorco @toriver @benroyce @dangillmor I’ve never heard Tories summed up so well! I salute you!!!!!

@benroyce @ketmorco @toriver @dangillmor

It's been said that sociopaths don't have a conscience. I'm not saying all Republican in the US are sociopaths but it kind of appears that way to me.

@TimBondy @benroyce @ketmorco @toriver @dangillmor Reasonable assumption until proven otherwise.

@dnelson @TimBondy @benroyce @toriver @dangillmor "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

It's impossible to find human life important, and vote against free school lunches.

It's impossible to find childhood education important and do anything besides support massive salaries for teachers.

It's impossible to *be* pro-the-above, vote differently without resigning, and still say you are pro-the-above, without being a sociopath.

@toriver @benroyce @dangillmor Yep. That's the whole point.

Those people aren't actually libertarians. They use libertarian tropes when it suits their interests.

The same way populists like trump saying contradicting things not because they're stupid or crazy, but because different statements target different audiences.

Somehow musk's "free speech absolutism" applies only to nazis and crackpots of all kinds, but he's happy to silence Ukrainian accounts, just because he kinda likes putin.

@bjeelka @toriver @dangillmor

"libertarianism" (the economic kind in the usa, not the social kind in europe) has always been another conservative lying grift

you have people too stupid to understand that without market controls, the largest players dominate and abuse to stay that way

and in a vacuum of power, it doesn't stay a vacuum, violent criminals moves in. you see that playing out on the right with trump

and you have plutocrats who gleefully herd the useful fools for political power

@benroyce @bjeelka @toriver @dangillmor

A libertarian is a fish - unclear on the concept of water.

@tuban_muzuru @bjeelka @toriver @dangillmor

as opposed to a fish needing a bicycle or not, which is a whole other topic 🤭

@benroyce @bjeelka @toriver @dangillmor

The closer I get to a tub-thumping libertarian, the higher my blood pressure.

Can't do it no mo' , Ben.

As varies risk on any given market, so must vary regulation - with this caveat - too much regulation is almost as bad as too little....
