Hey #gamedev are you syncing game graphics settings via Steam Cloud? Please stop, it messes with playing on Steam Deck so often >_<
@gamingonlinux that also sounds very stupid in general. Why would I want graphics settings, adjusted to the hardware at play, synced with devices WHICH HAVE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT HARDWARE?!
@mondanzo @gamingonlinux
They probably just save the settings as part of the save and the save gets cloud-synced. And not necessarily because the devs thought syncing graphics via cloud save to be useful.
@davibu I mean, that doesn't make it much better, in the end I don't want graphic settings based on my save, so the "best case" solution would be, that they create an extra save file solely for graphics settings and other Hardware dependant settings rather than save related.
@mondanzo
I agree. Just meant to say it might simply be an oversight rather than malicious behavior.
@davibu most probably. Though I think more likely to happen is: All settings are stored in the same file where also accessibility features or gameplay features or language features are stored in, which allegedly make sense to be synced. But all in all I think the best solution would just be to leave settings out of syncs.
@gamingonlinux Feral were doing this and it annoyed me so much I went off on one and hacked in a whole horrific system to tie the gfx settings to the hardware
@gamingonlinux opening the main menu at 4 fps
@gamingonlinux new doom games do that and it is annoying when I’m switching from beefy device to something that can’t run on ultra settings.
@gamingonlinux couldn’t play games in offline mode because of something like this.
@gamingonlinux Valve should make this part of Steam Deck verified testing

@gamingonlinux

Actual saves are the only thing that should be synced, IMO. Nothing else makes sense.

I don't like when settings are tied to the save file, they should be a separate thing.

@gamingonlinux

UNDERSTANDABLY this is not necessarily a trivial task in every case. However I think devs should consider the Deck on new projects where possible.

@gamingonlinux Not Steam Deck in my case but my laptop, I don’t need to run things at ultra on there lol. This also reminds me that for some reason, Slay the Spire syncs *audio levels*?? They leave the graphics be, fortunately, but they sync your volume. It’s quite annoying.
