curious if anyone could give a quick thumbs up/down on the Man in the High Castle TV series.

specifically if you've read the book first, how faithful is it with the story?

or does it just use the book as a starting point for an alternative history tv show?

i feel like the alternative history aspect is obviously pretty cool, but the book was *so* much more than that and i don't want to be disappointed.

@pete_wright

Good show.
Not tied closely to the book at all.

@pete_wright Uses the characters, set, and themes from the book, but diverges a lot from the book in plot and execution. However, the first season is good, albeit uncomfortable. I didn't want to like the bad guy, but goddammit, Rufus Sewell sold it.

I haven't seen the 2nd season. And, frankly, I've enough of fascists in real life.

@phaysis ah ok - I’ll probably pass then. Was hoping it’d take on some of the deeper themes in the book. Thanks!
@pete_wright @phaysis I did not read the book and enjoyed it, short of confusion like, β€œwhy is kick-butt Aikido woman routinely getting her butt kicked? Is this a parallel world thing or sequence issue, or oh please just make it simple.”
@pete_wright @phaysis I blame Dick and MitHC for getting me into the I Ching, which I wasted way too much time on when I was a teenager!
@nbartlett @phaysis that's exactly what led me to start this post. i was contemplating the I Ching and how he used it in the book and was like "i wonder how that tv show was?"
@pete_wright @nbartlett There's not much reading of the yarrow stalks in the show, at least not as a plot point (unlike the book). But it's present.
