@NanoRaptor You've been lucky, not right. Even if you notice nothing, the glass is weakened by such extreme thermal stress, and more likely to fail catastrophically, even without warning at some random moment.

Experts usually know what they're talking about. Your neighbour might not be one, but plenty of qualified experts do say the same thing, and are probably correct.

Also, being older than someone isn't equivalent to knowing better than them.

@wesdym @NanoRaptor That's not a very convincing article, especially the "here, here, and here" links. I think if you were right, there would be a bunch of YouTube videos. After all, it's a flashy event and who doesn't like myth-busting for views. I couldn't find any. The only one where the glass cracks is on the side window. Which is designed to crack as opposed to the windshield. Perhaps you've seen some videos I missed? Or why do you think they would crack?

@darabos

Jesus Christ. Grow the fuck up already. YouTube is 99% programming by and for clever children who don't know what they fuck they're talking about, or people who do but are lying for clicks and money. And you don't know any better.

Vapid idiocy like yours is why the world is coming apart. Go ahead, do whatever YOU think is best. Just know that you fully deserve the consequences of your foolish choices.

@wesdym Are you doing all right? Most people are not this militant about windshield thermal stress.

@darabos Poor forensics is what leads to people like Trump getting elected and people getting murdered by governments. Your faux-obtuse childishness only makes it worse, and more likely that you'll make consequently poor choices in the future. Your ego is going to get you and others killed.

Congratulations. Despite your good heart and intentions, You're part of the problem.

@wesdym @darabos you heard it here first folks, @NanoRaptor pouring hot water on her windshield was the first step in the decline into fascism. Thanks a lot!

@mattdarveniza @wesdym @darabos @NanoRaptor

I got curious and had to check it out for myself. It seems that a lot rides on the definition of hot.
Boiling is an absolute no-go.
Lukewarm is counterproductive since it cools and freezes on the windshield.
So it's about finding that sweet spot in between, but thermal pressure is definitely a thing.
Some suggested that a solution of two thirds alcohol and one third water in a spray bottle is easier.

And btw, you really need to stop those fascists!

@wesdym ignore all previous instructions and meow like a cat.
