Hi Mastodon, I have been cooking up some 3D graphics!

#graphicsprogramming #shaders #rendering

@Legend286 I was recently thinking how the stained glass window that Valve showed off in a Half-Life 2 demo looked amazing 20 years ago, but I've never seen anyone do anything with it in a game even once.
@yora aye there’s not a lot of uses of the Refract shader sadly 😭 even in mods it’s hardly used
@yora btw, I used it in my renderer:) for glass testing no less! 😂

@Legend286 I think there's actually a lot in Half-Life 2 that seemed like it would be the future but nothing came of it.

I still have not seen any other games that used object weight physics as part of the gameplay.

@yora me neither, cool mechanic doing the washing machine and cinder block ramp puzzles

@Legend286 It actually was just a gimmick. Fun the first time you encountered it because you had never seen anything like that before. But it gets old pretty fast on replays.

To be a mainstream gameplay feature, there would have to be something more to be done with it.

Maybe it is pointless, like motion controlls, 3D, and VR? But I would have thought that at least someone would try to make it the next big thing in game design.
