@nikres I feel like a bad phish fan. I don’t think I’ve listened to this all the way through yet.
@nikres Underrated album
@Brooks I agree. I really like this one, as a whole possibly better than any of the band albums (though they definitely have a number of better individual tunes for sure).
@nikres I prefer all of the studio albums through Busted Stuff (maybe with the exception of Every Day) but this is better than all the full band stuff that came after.
@Brooks I’ll agree to that.
@nikres Those early Blues Traveler albums were so good…
@Brooks I was just thinking that although they’re a shadow of their former selves and JP is problematic, this one may be one of my favorite albums. Also sad that despite seeing them 16 times, I never caught a Go Outside And Drive. They used to jam the hell out of that tune live.
@Brooks Blues Traveler was also my gateway to the jam scene back in the day, so I do still have a soft spot for them, though I’m not as into them as much as I once was.

@nikres I had tickets to see them in 1996, but I couldn’t find a ride and I missed it.

I’m not hearing good stuff about their live sets these days. Mostly covers with the hits sprinkled in and pretty much the same set every night.

@Brooks @nikres I probably saw 10 BT shows in from 93-98. I used to make fun of the Phish guys in my HS for following the wrong band. And JP, as problematic as he became, wrote some truly great songs: Mountains Win Again and Alone come to mind.
@Rosey @nikres Those first 4-5 albums are full of incredible tunes. It’s unfortunate that they’ve become a nostalgia act and JP turned out to be a shitty human. For a band with so many awesome songs, it blows my mind that they choose to play more covers than originals.

@Brooks @Rosey Yeah I caught a few shows where they were playing all the covers and then stopped going. Couldn’t take it anymore. I definitely miss the varied setlist days.

And yeah, the first five are pretty great. My late wife and I danced to Yours as our first wedding dance.

Then a few years later I was able to get this with handwritten lyrics by Popper and signed by the (current lineup) band.

@nikres @Rosey That’s very cool (and sweet)
@Rosey @Brooks @nikres I’ll stand by the quality of those first four albums and the live shows that came with them until the very end. Blues Traveler at Roseland was something special. https://shakedown.social/@chopaganda/112686428206993076

Damn. 30 years ago Blues Traveler was my gateway into all this. Probably would have had a much more “normal” life had they not led me to all this hippie drug band bullshit and everything and everyone that came with it. https://www.jambase.com/article/blues-traveler-tour-dates-four-30th-anniversary-fall-2024

@nikres @Brooks Love of My Life remains my favorite BT song to this day. Trina Magna, Whoops, Defense & Desire, Letter to a Friend, Fledgling…..there’s a depth of songwriting and feeling on that album no other jamband has been able to touch.

Things started to go downhill for me when Bobby died, and Popper was clearly an accident waiting to happen. But the first couple of albums are only rivaled by the early Widespread records for jamband quality.

@nikres this reminds me I need to watch the new Acolyte
