…before you hand your lean browser hopes to andreas kling, remember that the dude is a transphobe who hides his transphobia behind the “this is political and thus should not have place here” language.

for example, andreas kling thinks that asking to use inclusive or gender-neutral language is, and i quote, “advertising one's personal politics” and thus not an appropriate request to be made towards a project.

Gender neutral language within build instructions by Tunas1337 · Pull Request #6814 · SerenityOS/serenity

It's a minor nitpick, but I think it's important; assuming the user and/or developer of the operating system is male isn't exactly the best.

@mawhrin That’s a big claim considering the actual exchange that took place under that commit.

@jankais3r find me an example for preferring non-inclusive language in a software project where it's not directly motivated by prejudice.

now ask yourself a hypothetical question, would you – what would motivate you to call a change from male-by-default to gender-neutral language an expression of “personal politics” that should not take place in a software project?

@mawhrin The sentence in question (“To prevent this, remove `anon` from the `wheel` group and he will no longer be able to run `/bin/su`.”) does not even refer to a user-person, it refers to a user-account. So if we want to be pedantic, the sentence should use “it”.

Hence, I am not surprised that a pull request from a total stranger that contributes nothing to the project besides an equally incorrect pronoun use compared to the current state is perceived as bad faith effort by the maintainer.

In general, we should avoid putting labels on people based on our assumptions if not 100% backed up by their actions.

@jankais3r the sentence refers to the person using the system; it is useful to remember that the operating systems are not abstractions, they're written to be used by people.

(my reply here states my position and does not indicate that i'm interested in debating or litigating the issue; if you feel compelled to continue, please remove me from the mentions. thank you in advance.)
