Quarter-Finals: 1/4

1. Worf was the first Klingon in Starfleet. He is better known as the Chief of Security for the Enterprise D, though he occasionally served as her XO. His longest stretch as a first officer is as the XO of the USS Defiant.

Vs

8. Former Borg drone Seven of Nine finally joined Starfleet and was on an accelerated command track. She was the First Officer of the USS Titan A, under Captain Shaw.

Two very different careers, but who is the better XO?

Quarter-Finals: 2/4

13. Pavel Chekov is most widely known as the helmsman of the USS Enterprise. He served as the First Officer of the USS Reliant in The Wrath of Khan.

Vs

5. Benjamin Sisko. We first met him as First Officer of the USS Saratoga during the battle of Wolf 359. He later went on to greater fame as commander of Deep Space 9.

Two characters we saw very little of on-screen as a First Officer, but with long legacies. But who was the better First Officer?

2. Data served as First Officer of the Enterprise D under Captain Jellicoe and was tapped to be the new XO of the E before his death in Nemesis.

Vs

6. Kira Nerys was a Bajoran freedom fighter (terrorist) who found herself as the first officer of the newly Federation-owned Deep Space Nine.

An officer who for much of his screen time had no emotions, against someone who could be a hothead. Who Would you rather have as a First Officer?

7. Spock served for many years as James T Kirk's First Officer aboard the Enterprise. Known for his level-headed logical nature.

Vs

2. William Riker was First Officer aboard the USS Enterprises D and E. Often criticised for how long he stayed as first officer, his easy-going nature balanced well against Picard.

Two absolute heavyweights. Which of these famous names would you want by your side on the bridge?

And those are your quarter-finalists.

Only Chekov made it through from the Round 1 competitors. A man we saw as First Officer in just one film, beating the man who stood beside Janeway for a full seven seasons.

Riker continues his matchups against absolute titans of First Officership as he takes on Spock.

As always I'd love to know how you voted and why.

#StarTrekBracket

Spock and Riker are predictably close, but I didn't expect Kira and Data to be sat at exactly 50% each.
@Keab42 I think the second one is because first officer Kira is a better character with more interesting stories, but first officer Data is probably better in the role and was a beloved character in his engineering role.

The thread explains why the final results don't match the results on the Mastodon polls.

Attached: 2 images Good evening #StarTrek fans. We're continuing to choose the best First Officer in Star Trek. The Quarter-finals are done and it's Semi-final time. Voting will run for 7 days from 5/7/24 to 12/7/24 The QF thread can be found here: https://kind.social/@Keab42/1126560185 Because of poll weirdness, we did have some write-in votes so the numbers in the results below won't match those on the polls. #StarTrekBracket #NumberOne #FirstOfficer

@Keab42 so know I voted for Chekov, but I am surprised
@Keab42 hardest match up for me is Spock and Riker. Spock is an absolute legend. To be able to serve under his leadership would be the honor of a lifetime but when it comes to leadership style I'm solidly in Riker's camp. 🫑 On the bridge (and off duty) Riker can be fun and inspiring. 🎷He would expect a lot from you but if you were struggling I suspect he'd care.
@Keab42 The real throwdown for the ages, it's a tough call. But Riker's disarming charm wins me over.
@Keab42 OK this is very close for me so I just went with my gut and picked Spock. He can bring some Vulcan objectivity when needed, if I have to give a reason.
@Keab42 Kira keeping a death grip on DS9 out of pure spite towards her new government is very commendable, but Data isn't going to look like he's about to pull my head off if I go to him for career advice.

@Keab42 Honestly every time Data's been in a command position, first officer or captain, he's crushed it. Kira's great but Data fits the FO mold more neatly.

Sidenote: Data as FO with Kira at Tactical would be a perfect combo.

Edited to flip the descriptions round. I got them in the wrong order in the poll but I'm not editing that.
@Keab42 We've seen Sisko for so long in a command role, it's hard not to give it to him. Sorry Chekov, we hardly knew ye.
@Keab42 Well, Chekov doesn't have much of track record in this department. We hear a little about Sisko's FO days during DS9, and it sounds like he was a good one. Sisko sweep.
@Keab42 As with last round, I just don't think being a First Officer was the right direction for Seven's character. Worf worked his way up, and while he's a very atypical First Officer, at least believably wants the job.
@Keab42 another one where both characters are better in other positions, but I'd go with Worf since he has an easier time fitting in to the chain of command. Seven works best either in command or solo, I think.
