I am an ex-@fastmail employee and current subscriber. Like many of you, I am concerned about the recent lay-offs (https://union.place/@fastmailunited/112672408714595554), and I'm trying hard to not fall into a trap of just believing #Fastmail's statement (https://indieweb.social/@chadkoh/112677853479447745) without critical examination (even though finding an alternative mail provider with feature parity would *suck*).

However:
- When I was made redundant in 2017, my access to internal systems was revoked during the exit meeting with my manager. Which makes sense for a tech company concerned a disgruntled (ex-)employee may tamper with company systems.
- Not even in the post from @fastmailunited does it say "we were laid off because for union-related reasons". It says "we were able to negotiate for a much better severance package than […] had we not unionized", and they are "going to continue working to get a contract", and they "now have a bunch of smart, kind, and talented folks who are looking for work!"

So I guess what I'm saying is, while it *is* prudent to think critically about this situation and it's your prerogative to vote with your wallet, I'd caution against jumping to conclusions like "Fastmail is now a union buster," based on the little information that has come out from any of the outgoing staff members.
