Fastmail @fastmail has been operating on bare metal for 25 years. Their planning and (over-)provisioning strategy reminds me of Wikimedia.

Situations where cloud renting is cost effective for medium or large companies are vanishingly rare, and always have been. As with so many big tech patterns, this is a myth held up by VC-backed startups and incentives.

The old setup was Google Nest: voice reminders at 60 / 30 / 15 / 5 min before every event.
It worked. But it meant Google owning my calendar, my voice data, and my attention.
The goal: same behavior, zero Google.

@Greguti j'ai mes emails chez #fastmail et j'utilise leur appli mobile et sur mon laptop Linux.

Et j'utilise aussi #thunderbird comme solution de backup et pour les sauvegardes.

If you believe that #tuta #fastmail or #startmail are immune from court orders, you are sorely mistaken. #proton #protonmail giving over payment and/or metadata under a court order is not a violation of their privacy policy, and is required by Swiss law. That also doesn’t mean they failed to still provided privacy. The content that was intended to be private is still encrypted and private as long as the password and #encryption keys remain unknown. 1/3

Hold ⇧ Shift when clicking reply or compose to open it in a new window. Use ⇧ Shift + R to reply, or ⇧ Shift + A to reply all. Replies now appear inline, so you stay in context while you write. Plus a cleaner compose view and drag-and-drop recipients.

Does anyone know how #fastmail gets the avatars for email senders?

I know it's not BIMI as neither news.philips-hue.com nor philips-hue.com have BIMI records.

I know it's not Gravatar as neither of the two email addresses returns anything from Gravatar.

So, how does Fastmail do it? I'd love to know if anyone knows.

I think I want to setup a #blog. Probably something static that I can host by just uploading to my #Fastmail file hosting service for now, though I'm open to other options. (I do have a domain I can use. It's mail already goes to Fastmail.) I'd prefer to stay away from Javascript based stuff if possible and I want nothing to do with PHP. Thoughts/recommendations?

I hate that I'm having an issue sending to 2 addresses from my #Fastmail account. But I love the fact that I've had an on going dialogue with #FastmailSupport for the past 2 days and haven't gone a day without receiving a reply from them. Here's hoping they can help me get to the bottom of the issue and resolve it.
