I watched the Channel 4 programme tonight 'NHS in Crisis? The Debate'.

Unless I blinked and missed it... Oh just at the very end Matthew Taylor has mentioned poverty...

I was about to say no one has mentioned austerity and the impact on the population, though there was some talk on the need for prevention rather cure

Krishnan Guru-Murthy squeezed in as much as he could, but it really needed a longer programme.

To those who are determined to change the system, please note:

"There is little evidence that one particular ‘type’ of health care system or model of health care funding produces systematically better results than another. Countries predominantly try to achieve better health outcomes by improving their existing model of health care, rather than by adopting a radically different model."

It's ridiculous to expect first rate care on the cheap.

"Compared to other countries, the UK does not spend a particularly high proportion of its national wealth on health care, while a decade of historically low funding increases has left services facing huge pressures and a workforce crisis. Like... how much is spent on health is a political choice and politicians should be honest with the public about the standards of care they can expect with the levels of funding provided."

@TalktoBeverley I really hate that your politicians are trying to push you into the US model because it's really terrible ☹️

@Jennifer I have family in Ohio. I remember visiting and being appalled that one family member was suffering but a doctor couldn't be called.

On another occasion, my ex-husband's uncle needed treatment but could only obtain hospital care by agreeing to take part in a research project. I still don't know whether or not he received a placebo. He died.

These incidents were shocking to me then... but the road we're heading down here now... Heaven help us. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@TalktoBeverley I had to close my book consulting business in 2018 because my husband got laid off,we lost his corporate health insurance, and the cheapest government plan was $2600/month with a $14,000 deductible ( how much you have to pay yourself before insurance contributes). My husband couldn't find another job so I had to close my business and get a corporate job just for affordable health insurance.

@Jennifer awh Jennifer... I'm so sorry.

How frustrating to have the 'system' decide your future...

That amount must be out of reach for many. I have been familiar with your system for some time but it still shocks me. Probably why I get so frustrated with folk who think insurance would be better. Some always think the grass is greener!

(What you call a deductible, we refer to as an 'excess'. For us we're more familiar with this concept on car and property insurance policies.)

Take care.

@TalktoBeverley I used to be so jealous of the NHS, I really can't understand why your politicians are trying to destroy it!

@Jennifer corruption, greed, money in there back pockets...

There seems to be zero integrity in public life these days.

Just as Trump lies and gets away with it, our version, Johnson started that particular rot.

The latest scandal over here is betting on the date of the election by those working in and alongside government.

Surely even a child would know that was wrong?

The world's gone mad.
