Anyone have a digital copy of the sourcecode of the game Megaroids for the Macintosh or Atari ST, written by Mike Bunnell in Megamax C?

'Megaroids' - My All-Time Favorite 'Asteroids' Clone - Byte Cellar

In my opinion, Asteroids is one of the very best videogames of all time. I guess that’s probably obvious. Lately I’ve been playing a related series of Asteroids-inspired games that are old enough to be considered retro, themselves. They were … Continue reading →

@blakespot I transcribed the source which was published in "Programming C on the Macintosh" using OCR (tesseract) and a lot of manual fixes, but haven't tried compiling the source yet. There are probably still a number of errors in the source...

I uploaded the transcribed sources (with a modified resource file to compile with the command line resource compiler) and the PDF to https://multicores.org/megaroids/

I'm not on Reddit, please feel free to post the URL there.

@me_ Many thanks! Well done, then and now. I have posted your info to the aforelinked Reddit thread.

I always loved that game, personally (on the Atari ST).

@blakespot I set up one of my MegaSTs again to run my little music studio but I spent most of the time with the machine playing Megaroids so far... 😀 Unfortunately, the source for the ST version seems to be more difficult to find, maybe we can reconstruct it from the Mac sources?

@me_ Hah, I get that, for sure. It looks so nice in medium res color on the ST, with that perplexing seems-to-be-interlaced thing going on there. I used to play it in the shop in 1985 when the ST had just landed.

I've not got it on my 520STm, Mac Plus, and DOS PC -- there's a monochrome EGA version that's squished down a bit, since the screenmode is 640x350 rather than 640x400. Certainly the weakest version.

I always wished it had been ported to the Amiga.

@blakespot have you found it? would be nice to archive this
