PLEASE BOOST - #firstaid With the news that yet another white supremacist was planning another mass shooting event, the more and more people need to be ready to jump into action to save lives.
This is my six item trauma kit list
RECOMMEND:
Tourniquet, x2
Chest seals, 6"x6", with vent, x2
"Israeli-style" compression bandages, 6-inch, x2
Kaolin infused (Quik-Clot) packing gauze, at least 4 feet
EMT Shears, x1
Emergency Blanket (cold/shock), x1

You can't wait for help to arrive, YOU ARE THE HELP.

What's sad is that this is only going to save ONE person, IF they only have ONE torso wound and up to two limb wounds.
You will need to DOUBLE the tourniquets, compression bandages, and packing gauze, and TRIPLE the chest seals to save ONE person with multiple wounds.
If there is a mass shooting event, MULTIPLE people will need to be carrying these kits, and there are going to be well more than one victim
Get the training, save LIVES.

Training

With 3 quick actions, you can be trained to save a life. The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. That’s why we want to train you how to stop the bleed.

Stop the Bleed
@jeffowski Tell me you’re American without telling me you’re American.
@schnabel -- LoL... Lucky you, Americans export their gun culture around the world.

Shootings are ‘spreading like a disease in Europe,’ says survivor of deadly Prague attack

Jakob Weizman, a student at Charles University in the Czech Republic and a former US resident, says shootings “spreading like a disease to Europe as well.”

CNN
@jeffowski I think that may be a bit exaggerated.
@schnabel -- Sounds like you're in denial.
Mass shootings and mass casualty events happen all the time. Are you going to be ready to do something or are you going to be a bystander?
@jeffowski Sounds like you’re misunderstanding me. Mass shootings are - despite the CNN article you mentioned - not common in Europe. That’s all I wanted to say. I’m all for learning first aid and being g able to help, but in Europe this would mean preparing for traffic accidents or heart attacks.

@schnabel -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:2024_mass_shootings_in_Europe

This is just for this year. Again, I think you underestimate the chances of a mass shooting in your area.

Category:2024 mass shootings in Europe - Wikipedia

@jeffowski Five. One of them in Moscow(!), one in Georgia, two places not exactly known for being part of Europe politically. That leaves three. For all of Europe.

I think the risk of being close to a mass shooting in Europe is close to zero.

@schnabel -- I'm amazed that Europeans don't understand how small Europe is.
It is a full 1/3 more distance between New York and Los Angeles (2700 miles) than between London and Moscow (1800 miles).
You discounting those other shootings based on distance is the only way your argument holds together.
@jeffowski You are aware Russia and Georgia are different countries with guarded borders between them and any European neighbors? Different laws? There’s no country in Europe with gun laws comparable to the US?
@schnabel -- EXACTLY... THANKS FOR MAKING MY POINT.
Even with the strictest gun laws, mass shootings are happening on a regular basis and happening at an increasing rate, IN SPITE OF THOSE LAWS.
Discounting gun violence because you're in Europe is simply you burying your head in the ground like an ostrich, ignoring the data and the trend.
@jeffowski Ok. You’re right. Sorry for bothering you. Good night.

2024 Normandy shootout
"Two prison officers were killed in the shooting, while three others were seriously wounded, including one in critical condition. The incident was the first time French prison officers were killed on duty since 1992"

Crocus City Hall attack
"Crocus City Hall music venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia." (Not Europe)

2024 Istanbul church shooting
"a Roman Catholic church located in Istanbul, Turkey" (Not Europe)

Rustavi market shooting
"killing four people and wounding one"

Viertola school shooting
"One of the victims died and two were seriously injured"

7 dead, 6 injured. (By US standards, only 2 of those 3 would count as mass shootings. And it's a bit marginal whether Georgia is or is not in Europe. But let that slide)

Compare and contrast: US mass shootings reported since Tuesday: 4 dead, 21 injured.

@jeffowski @schnabel Add to that, the population of Europe is well over double the population of the US.

@jeffowski @schnabel the problem isn't laws, but #ViolenceCulture normalizing #StochastocTerrorism by rewarding such acts with airtime / screentime!

@jeffowski @schnabel Sorry, but area is a really shitty comparison here, go by population to be meaningful. The EU has roughly 448 million inhabitants, that's about 106/km², not including Türkiye, Russia and Georgia. The US has ~335 million, or ~34/km².
So at thrice the population density we had
- less shootings than the US in the first week of the year
- excluding the terrotist attack in Russia, less deaths than the US had on January 1st alone
- including that, less than half of the US to date.

@jeffowski @schnabel the #EU has >500M citizens, the #USA has ~313M, which means statistically there should be more cases in the EU, but there ain't.

Area isn't the factor, but people and maybe gun desity if we're ignoring #ViolenceCulture...

@schnabel @jeffowski +9001%

And it's evidently not due to legislation or lack of access to guns...

Maybe it's because people here have easier access to help and support in a personal crisis?
