Given that Math Notes are available on iOS 18 too, so far, I count exactly *two* exclusive iPadOS 18 features:
- Redesigned tab bars
- Apple Pencil Smart Script
Operating system for $2,000 computer. Two exclusive new features.
Makes sense. đ

Let me cut to the chase: sadly, I don't have a new iPad Pro to review today on MacStories. I was able to try one in London last week, and, as I wrote, I came away impressed with the hardware. However, I didn't get a chance to use a new iPad Pro over the past
@viticci And the tab bars thing just looks like another confusing UI element bolted onto iPadOS
What problem does it even solve?
@viticci I suspect that Math Notes was an iPad first thing, that was easily ported to iOS. I suspect other features might have started on iPadOS, and then easily moved to iOS.
That said, while I love my iPad Pro, I also wish that the OS would allow it to do more with the sheer potential of the hardware
@viticci Macs got iPhone continuity and Window Snapping as their only exclusive features
Operating system for $12,000 computer. Two exclusive ânewâ features.
Makes sense. đ
@viticci I mean there are plenty of things macOS misses that make it worse for everyday computing just how iPadOS is missing thing that make it worse for professional computing
Both scenarios are important
@viticci the Home app sucks, Apple Music and Podcasts are missing a lot of functionality, the TV app is basically unusable, widget support is atrocious, app discovery is bad because most things are just a website
Freeform is bad, reminders is clunky
The native app ecosystem is comparatively nonexistent, even some of Appleâs stock apps arenât fully native
Some people have completely forgotten that Siri is even on the Mac
Control center isnât getting any of the stuff that iPad and iPhone got
System Settings???
@viticci Steven was right about that... Apple went all-in for AI this year, leaving everything behind. And pushing Vision Pro to release also consumed probably a lot of resources during most of the year.
Maybe next time... maybe good because Apple have time to rethink the iPad, and maybe a little bit more time to polish it. Curious though if it won't be too late at that time.
