Given that Math Notes are available on iOS 18 too, so far, I count exactly *two* exclusive iPadOS 18 features:

- Redesigned tab bars
- Apple Pencil Smart Script

Operating system for $2,000 computer. Two exclusive new features.

Makes sense. 👍

@viticci Macs got iPhone continuity and Window Snapping as their only exclusive features

Operating system for $12,000 computer. Two exclusive “new” features.

Makes sense. 👍

@countablenewt right. Because macOS is *exactly* where iPadOS is, too.

@viticci I mean there are plenty of things macOS misses that make it worse for everyday computing just how iPadOS is missing thing that make it worse for professional computing

Both scenarios are important

@viticci the Home app sucks, Apple Music and Podcasts are missing a lot of functionality, the TV app is basically unusable, widget support is atrocious, app discovery is bad because most things are just a website

Freeform is bad, reminders is clunky

The native app ecosystem is comparatively nonexistent, even some of Apple’s stock apps aren’t fully native

Some people have completely forgotten that Siri is even on the Mac

Control center isn’t getting any of the stuff that iPad and iPhone got

System Settings???

@countablenewt @viticci however if one buys a Mac is fully productive with all things one might expect from a computer OS, so perhaps it’s ok not to be full of new features; iPadOS is not there yet for a 2000$ tablet.

@redv1ew @viticci it’s only “not there yet” for an unusual and very loud demographic talk to a normal person about this and they’ll look at you like you’re insane

Techies misinterpreted one ad years ago and now that’s iPad’s identity

@redv1ew @viticci like this is a problem like green and blue bubbles are a problem: for one weird demographic and everyone else just gets by doing what they’ve been doing for years
