So #furality is STILL supporting a straight pride meetup. Today, the day of this event, I get the most sane series of messages from a homophobe!

This is EXACTLY why straight focused events should be banned at furry cons! Cishet people are the super majority. They don’t have to worry that governments worldwide want them dead. They don’t get thrown off buildings because of their sexual and/or gender identity! They have ZERO need to their own “safe space”, especially when us queer folk are attacked by them for wanting a safe space.

@VoidPaw Don’t care how few or many people. Should never have occurred, at least not with official Furality backing. Straight folks don’t need special events for them, not when cishets are trying to kill us!

NEVER accept lgbtq-phobia, in any form! This event was just that, even if only a few people went. It is disgusting that this even occurred during pride month. Of course, that was a purposeful “fuck you” to queer folks.

When events like this bring out folks like the one in the screenshots, then you know it’s NOTHING good. Furality should be ASHAMED!!!

@ScaledHams It seems pretty hard to find straight furries in this fandom, so having an event for them to meet up seems helpful.

@VoidPaw These things are never just meets. They’re havens for right wing bullshit. The homophobes love to bitch about pride month, and have made “straight pride” a thing.

All these events are ALWAYS right wing meetups to spew homophobia and transphobic crap, along with the usual racist and fascist crap. That’s what fascists do. They co-opt, take over, and attack.

Furality themselves questioned this meet, but decided homophobia is better than banning this event. They never should’ve allowed it.

@ScaledHams I would say that if we let the right wing homophobes and fascists affect our ability to host a meetup for straight furries to meet other straight furries, then that's a victory for them. I'd instead prefer if we reclaim some of these weird taboos so that the nasty people have less influence on our fandom.

The people I met at the event just chatted about their favorite video games and stuff and didn't have any problem with me being there despite being gay. I think that justifies this event being included in next year's convention as well.

That is a very extreme view.
Its neither good to be harassed or harass other folks for their sexual preferences. And, ideally, the meets exist for folks to find others of similar mindset or preferences.
If there is any reasonable solution to this, it would be having a furality staff member hover nearby to make sure things didn't devolve to negative subjects.

But it would be insane not to realize these sort of gatherings are run by and for right wing bastards. Time and time and time and time again, they make these events just to terrorize queer folk. No good will ever come of it. If you keep believing “oh but this time it’s different”, then hoping the same thing won’t lead to the same outcome is the definition of insanity.
