@antifaintl Streetfighting Nazis is the stupidest strategy imaginable. Consider the Weimar-Era German Communist streetfighting thugs. Prime Nazi strategy is creating fear while positioning themselves as the guarantors of order and stability. Streetfighting plays right into that (note that Nazis are never a majority party). It is also idiotic tactically, because 8 or 9 times out of 10 the cops will protect Nazi streetfighters over anti-Nazi streetfighters. Suspect Putin propaganda here.
@markvonwahlde @antifaintl Do please enlighten everyone as to the best ways to fight fascism.
@mathew @antifaintl That is not even hard. (1) political engagement; (2) willingly compromise with non-nazi political enemies, (3) work for strong unions.
@markvonwahlde @antifaintl Weimar Germany had (1) over half the population voting (2) a long term coalition between left and center parties and (3) strong unions.
@mathew @antifaintl Your coalition argument is dead wrong.
@mathew @antifaintl Bruening was governing by edict.
@markvonwahlde @antifaintl Brüning was from the coalition's Centre Party and was chief executive of the trades unions until 1930. How does his being unable form a coalition majority after Nazi election gains, and so resorting to governing by edict, support the idea that a coalition and unions are the way to avoid fascism?
@mathew @antifaintl How does an argumentative question further discussion?
@markvonwahlde @mathew How do your three solutions to fascism stop them from murdering people right now?
80+ years of anti-fascist tactics demonstrates that a militant opposition willing to confront them in the streets and physically defend communities from them is effective, but maybe you haven't paid attention to history post 1945?

@markvonwahlde as someone who used to subscribe to this nonsense take: the true history of antifascism involves physical resistance as part of a diversity of tactics, e.g. see Dave Hann's book of that name https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17221692-physical-resistance

As to why this is, consider how effective fascists are at presenting themselves as providing safety if they lose streetfights, and how much physical harm they're able to cause when not resisted (e.g. look at the EDL in Luton in the UK in 2011) - especially given the police collaboration that you currently point out.

@markvonwahlde @antifaintl Unfortunately when it comes to fascism there's no easy solution. There will always be collateral damage. The important thing is stopping nazis and mitigating harm to nazi victims as much as possible. Some people are going to be hurt no matter what because there is no simple solution.

That's why fascism must be uprooted as soon as it sprouts. Because if it grows enough you can't chop it down without crushing something.
