"Teach me to fight!"

"Very well," the swordmaster said, "but first tell me why you want to learn."

"My honour has been stained!"

"Ah. I will teach you, if you accept the first lesson."

"Which is?"

"There is no stain that can be washed away with blood."

@MicroSFF I find that stain-resistant honor is a worthy investment

@MicroSFF Nice.

Regarding honour - sometimes you read something and it burrows deep into you; everytime I hear someone talking about honour, this pops into my mind:

"Reputation is what other people know about you. Honour is what you know about yourself."

Guarding one's honour using swords or guns against another strikes me as illogical. Ditto for guarding reputation.

Then again, people are often (mis)guided by their emotions, and it takes someone wise to show them the error of their way.

These days we sue people for slander.

Making false and damaging statements about another person is illegal.

@MicroSFF that's a great lesson that more people need to learn.
@MicroSFF who says that is fiction? 🙂
@GreyPuma Just because it's fiction doesn't mean it's not true.
