This is an interesting example of green nudging. The word "Vegan" does indeed carry a lot of baggage that some people shy away from. If you label the same “Vegan” product as “Plant Based”, there is often less resistance.

Vegan Food & Living

@andycarolan I’ve seen loads of advertising for vegan food here in Hamburg, on buses and hoardings - and plenty of restaurants. We stumbled upon a restaurant yesterday which happened to be fully vegan, healthy, and genuinely had some of the best food I’ve ever had. Didn’t eat again for the rest of the day cos it was so filling too!

We’re driving up to Sweden today so let’s see how we do there 🌱

@LDJ That's interesting! From what others have said, it seems to be getting better there for Vegan food availability.

Good luck in Sweden!

@andycarolan All of Europe is thousands of times better than it used to be when I travelled a little about 20-25 years ago. When I visited Berlin, Prague and Copenhagen then (vegetarian) the only thing I could eat was fries - McDs didn’t even have a veggie burger then (!), or margherita pizza. Got sick of that quickly! 😂 Also the internet really helps to find the vegan spots, we are spoiled these days!
@LDJ It's definitely better now than it was even a few years ago. Chain stores here in the UK need to do better though. I find that all too often, Cafes have a fridge filled with 20+ meat/dairy options and 1 or 2 vegan ones, which are usually out of stock.

I worked at Pret A Manger and vegan items have never been a good seller. Pret just advertises it to virtue signal. And even if Pret have a vgean range, you're NEVER sure if it's REALLY vegan.

Pret remain unsafe even after 2 customer deaths and over 20 injuries (that we know of). Customers post pictures of mislabeled food where vegans and vegetarians eat meat labeled as vegan or veg:
