ive gotten enough practice at kitsune tails during development that maybe i'll speedrun it for a while after it launches
you're allowed to do that, right. speedrun a game you made?
@eniko Speedrunning is a type of playing and it would be silly to make an entire game and then not play it at all
@olivvybee isnt making an entire game and then not playing it like, normal? XD
@eniko I guess it depends on the person but if I ever made a game I would like to think it would be because I wanted to play it myself
@eniko some games have a thing where you can race the dev! Adding things to make speedrunning easier would probably be cool too, even if it’s just a clock you can toggle in settings
@eniko i have, and still hold the record in a few categories for it, so def allowed
@eniko Count it as work towards making a Time Trial mode and finding a ballpark for the upper bounds :D.
@eniko As long as you don't use glitches you purposefully left in the game to get your speedrunning times better, I'd say that you should definitively run it, and put your runs somewhere where I can watch them πŸ™‚
@j_bertolotti @eniko I'd say use glitches you purposefully left in the game. Speedrunners use glitches all the time. If they stay in the game it's fair play. The only question is do you want to show them the glitches or should they find them themselves?
@eniko why not lol. Give people a cool goal to try and meet
@eniko i think this is how the par times in Doom and Doom 2 came about so there's probably precedent
@eniko If that's how we ended up with dev times on Crash Bandicoot 3 or the unlimited rocket launcher unlockable in Resident Evil 1, I think it's worth risking the birth of mythical bragging rights
@eniko It’s a continuation of the tradition of filling the high score chart with you and your fellow developers. Or having par times for levels.
@eniko You're allowed to for sure and, while I don't know any devs who speedrun their own games, I do know of some who are active in the speedrun communities of their games and it's generally super appreciated.
