Walking thru my 'hood, I see a new #coffeeShop emerging. Still step ladders and paint buckets but should be close.

A long-standing #Bridgehead coffee shop closed across the street as that little local chain got bought out by a big corp. They seem to be shrinking as per big corporate modus operandi.

Hope this new one is decent. Wish it were indie, but that name sounds franchisey.

Aha, okay it is an indie spot. Yay.

I further read that during the pandemic, Bridgehead, which had just been bought out by a big corp who also owned Canada-wide chain Second Cup sold off the SC portion! Now they've just this spring sold Bridgehead to a Toronto-based roastery, taking a bath on their investment.

FFWD to now, this Bower café is a new venture from the guy who used to run several Equator shops (another local mini-chain).

Lots of turmoil in the local coffee biz.

@ottaross If you notice them open, I’m interested. They’re right near my mom’s.
@MichaelPorter probably just days away now
@ottaross 👍🏻
I'll have to set up a date with my Mom 😊

Followup to this earlier post – That new #Wesboro #coffeeshop opened up last weekend, we heard, and I've popped in twice while walking by just to check out the vibe.

Friendly staff, a small but broad selection of pastry and cake items, and nice decor. No WiFi apparently, but big windows so should be able to toot your visit via your mobile ok.

@ottaross "No WiFi" - Hmm, this place is sounding better and better 😄

@ottaross

Where is this? I want to try.

Bridgehead - I think the acquisition by Pilot coffee is a good thing. They’re a small chain in Toronto and they care about good coffee

I’m theory a better owner than Second cup

@mlevison it's in Westboro across the street from the Clocktower.

The new Bridgehead owner does indeed sound better than a Second Cup affiliation. Hope they return some of their former grandeur.

@ottaross

Thanks does that mean Bridgehead Golden is gone?

@mlevison yes, sadly it closed a couple of months back. They still have one shop in the building with the Farm Boy on McRae near Scott.

@ottaross darn

Much better atmosphere than McRae which has no light.

Long bike ride on Sunday. Will want coffee. Apparently my options aren’t what I expected.

Thanks

@mlevison maybe the new one will be open then. Worth a peek.
