The #legislation, which passed the #Louisiana State Senate by a vote of 29 to 7, now goes to Gov #JeffLandry, a #Republican who previously defended the state’s stringent #AbortionBan in court as AG. He is widely expected to sign it.

By classifying #Abortion pills #mifepristone & #misoprostol as #ScheduleIVDrugs —a category of medicines w/potential for #DrugAbuse or #DrugDependence ( #addiction ) that includes Ambien, Valium, Xanax, & others— lawmakers in #Louisiana say they aim to curb the *illicit distribution* of the drugs. But the #FDA does not consider the 2 #medications to have any potential for abuse or dependence, & yrs of research overwhelmingly show both pills to be #safe.
