The Tories have introduced voter id to UK elections on the flimsiest evidence and with limited docs allowed for id.

The Veterans Minister asked for the new Veterans Cards to be allowed as voter id, but the Gov refused.

This leaked doc from the minister shows clearly the reason: the Tories are trying to stop young people from voting because the evidence is that young people tend not to vote Tory in great numbers.

@AlexGallagher
I'm sure it's just "what the people want" 🤔
@AlexGallagher
I used my over 60 bus pass to vote but apparently student Railcard isn't acceptable. What nonsense.
@guyholmes
@AlexGallagher How this goes in Australia. At the polling place, you’re asked your name, address, date of birth, and whether you have voted at another polling place already today. If all clear, you’re in.

@AnOldGuy
In the UK until last year, you rocked up to the polling station, they asked your name and address. You gave it. The scored through the list, handed you a slip, you put your cross and put the slip in a box. Then left.

Fraud was non-existent.

@AlexGallagher Our elections are also held on a Saturday, not a weekday.
