I really thought that the rule was that low unemployment under conservative government = good, because economy, while low unemployment under non-conservative government = bad because "future inflation".

I may be misremembering this, but I think it was Reagan who first included gov't employees and the military in the "employed" category. Previously, the employment statistics only described employment in the private sector. Sleight of hand. The unemployment number took a nosedive overnight without a new job in sight.

I've seen a number of different reports today that say today's inflation increase is highly concentrated in insurance, housing, utilities and medical care. PPI is back down to 2.2% and durable goods orders are softening. The bills that people must pay every month are still seeing 1984 levels of inflation while yachts and private jets are coming down in price.
