A few more bioluminescent ghost fungi (Omphalotus nidiformis) are starting to appear around Corunna, NSW after a week of rain - including this big fella (trusty Tobisho SR-2s for scale). Might pop back tonight for a couple of bioglow photos if the rain eases off a bit...

Golly what a find! How fast do they emerge? Looks so fresh

@CoastalCoasting around here they emerge and mature pretty quickly in good conditions - usually after autumn rainfall. Probably develop over 2 -3 days then usually don't last much longer than another 3 - 4 days. if the weather is warm and dry they fade away pretty quickly.

At my place we tend to get smaller groups - usually one or two only -around the base of logs - but fairly large fruit. Friends a bit to the south have much larger stands of smaller fruits on standing stumps - they are pretty variable.

@silverdory are they edible?
@PatNaik No - eating them can lead to severe cramps and vomiting.
@silverdory ah okay. Looking forward to the glowing photos.
